The department’s mission is to advance the cause of Christ by producing excellent musicians with a heart for God and a passion to serve. Program Objectives Upon completion of the B.M. curriculum in church music, students will be able to: 1. Recognize and recall music theory principles. 2. Analyze musical compositions by applying sound music theory principles. 3. Perform proficiently in one’s primary instrument. 4. Formulate and articulate a theology of worship based on sound biblical principles and valid biblical interpretation. 5. Evaluate and critique the content and appropriateness of any worship medium (music, drama, media, etc.) by employing one’s theology of worship as a foundation for evaluation. 6. Plan, implement, and lead effective rehearsals and worship team building exercises for church and parachurch organizations. 7. Plan, produce, and lead theologically sound and edifying corporate worship experiences for the local church or parachurch organizations. 8. Value and support the role that worship plays in the larger overall ministry and discipleship practice of the local church or parachurch organization.
