Recipients must maintain a GPA of 3.25 or higher. The debate team coach will recommend recipients and selection will be made by the media and applied communications department chair, the forensics team coach, and a member of the media and applied communications department. One to four scholarships are awarded each year ranging from $500–$2,500. Hugh T. Hall Memorial Scholarship* Helen Jones established this scholarship in 1996 to honor her late first husband Hugh T. Hall. The scholarship assists students pursing a degree in Bible who demonstrate exemplary Christian character, a love for and involvement with people, and a productive ministry in the Christian ministries program. He or she must also have expressed desire to pursue a professional ministry career in missions or the pastorate. Recipients must have completed two full year years at Cedarville and hold the academic rank of senior. Recipients of this award are selected by the biblical and ministry studies department chair and faculty; no application is necessary. One scholarship is awarded per year ranging from $200–$500. Note: Mrs. Jones keeps all recipients’ letters and pictures and prays for each one every week! Dr. Joseph Halsey Award* This scholarship was established in 1999 by Joel ’98 and Krystee ’97 LeBlanc to honor Dr. Joseph Halsey. The scholarship assists a full-time political science major who anticipates entering law school after completing their program of study. The recipient must have at least one year remaining in their program or study, must demonstrate the potential to excel in the political science program, and must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. Recipients of this award are selected by department faculty. One scholarship is awarded annually. Morley Halsmith Memorial Scholarship* This award was established by Debra Halsmith to honor the life and ministry of her husband, Morley R. Halsmith, and to assist graduating seniors in the Church Music Ministries program. The recipient must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 and is planning a full-time career in church music ministry. The student must demonstrate exceptional musical and spiritual leadership abilities. Recipients of this award are selected by the music and worship department faculty. One scholarships of $2,000 is awarded per year. Sandra W Harner Technical and Professional Communication Award* This annually funded scholarship was established in 2008 by Sandra Harner ’64 to assist exceptional students preparing for a career in technical and professional communication. Recipients must be pursuing a degree in an academic major in technical and professional communication, have at least one year of study remaining in their program, demonstrate financial need, and have a cumulative grade average of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The chair of the department of English, literature, and modern languages will assign departmental faculty to make the annual selection in concert with the director of financial aid. Candidates must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if intersted in this scholarship. An average of one scholarship is awarded each year of $1,500. Stephen M. Harriman Memorial Award* This scholarship was established in 2007 by Earle and Donnabelle Harriman to honor the memory of their beloved, late son, Stephen ’73, who was a Social Science major. Recipients must be history or history education majors, have at least one year remaining in their academic program, demonstrate spiritual maturity and leadership qualities, and maintain a 3.3 GPA or higher. The faculty of the department of history and government select the recipients. One scholarship of $1,000 is awarded annually. Frank O. Harris Memorial Scholarship The Frank O. Harris Memorial Scholarship was established in 2004 to assist students whose parents are full-time missionaries currently serving at the time of the award. Recipients must demonstrate significant financial need and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. Approximately two scholarships are awarded each year ranging from $1,000–$2,000. Selection is made by the director of financial aid. Marinus Hazen, Jr. Memorial Scholarship* Madlyn Hazen established this scholarship in 2003 in loving memory of her husband, Marinus Hazen, Jr. The scholarship assists graduating seniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance. Recipients must have a GPA of at least 3.3 and demonstrate exceptional integrity, a strong Christian testimony, and consistent ethical behavior. Recipients of this award are selected by the business department faculty. No application is necessary. One scholarship of approximately $1,000 is awarded per year. Helping Hand Scholarship Mabel Walker established this scholarship in 1974 to assist students with financial need. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. The director of financial aid selects the recipients. Two scholarships of approximately $1,400 are awarded annually. William and Cora Norman Henry Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1983 by Geraldine Henry ’34 to honor her parents, William and Cora Henry. The scholarship assists full-time students majoring in elementary education which demonstrate financial need. Preference is given to students from Clark County, Ohio. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. One scholarship is awarded per year ranging from $200–$500. Selection will be made by the director of financial aid. Heritage Baptist Church Scholarship Daniel ’80 and Julie Green ’81 established this scholarship in 1997 to assist student members of Heritage Baptist Church in Lakeland, Florida. Recipients must submit a pastoral recommendation and a paper by July 1 each year detailing their spiritual goals for the coming year. Consideration given with pastoral recommendation to Lakeland Christian School students in the event that no students from Heritage Baptist Church are awarded the scholarship. Recipients must also complete a Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher if interested in this scholarship. The director of financial aid selects the recipients. One scholarship of approximately $2,000 is awarded per year. Heyd Math/Science Award* This award was established by David and Jean Heyd in 2001 to encourage and assist deserving University students and to honor their parents, Charles and E. LaRue Wilcox and Elmer and Kathy Heyd. The scholarship is awarded to full-time sophomore or junior students who are pursuing a degree within the department of science and mathematics. Recipients must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 and must demonstrate a balance between devotion and service to God and diligence in their academic studies. Financial need is not required but may be considered. Recipients of this award are selected by science and mathematics department faculty. Two scholarships of $1,000 are awarded annually. Completion of FAFSA is recommended but not required. Raymond P. Holland, Jr. Engineering Excellence Award* Stephen and Linda Nelson established this scholarship in 2003 to honor Linda’s father, Raymond P. Holland, Jr, an aeronautical engineer whose passion for flight and creative aircraft designs helped advance aviation. The scholarship assists a full-time sophomore or junior engineering major who exhibit excellence, creativity, dedication and common sense in their studies and application of engineering principles. Recipients must have a 3.3 GPA or higher. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need. It is recommended that students submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. Recipients of this award are selected by departmental faculty and the director of financial aid. One scholarship of $1,500 is awarded per year. Richard E. and Carole C. Holmes Engineering Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1994 by Richard and Carole Holmes. The scholarship is awarded to a student within the department of engineering and computer science who demonstrates a commitment to engineering and a capacity to contribute to the profession. Recipient must maintain a GPA that allows them to continue in the program and achieve reasonable and timely completion of the degree. The director of financial aid and engineering and computer science department chair select the recipients. Four to six scholarships are granted per year ranging from $1,500–$2,500. Holmes Family Scholarship This scholarship was established in 1997 by Richard and Carole Holmes to assist full-time students with financial need. Preference is given to graduates of Dayton Christian High School, Dayton, OH. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. The director of financial aid selects the recipients. On average, eight scholarships are awarded per year ranging from $1,000–$2,000. Edward B. and Fauna B. Holmes Nursing Scholarship Richard and Carole Holmes established this scholarship in 1994 to honor Edward and Fauna Holmes. The scholarship is awarded to nursing majors with a commitment to nursing and a capacity to contribute to the nursing profession. Recipients must have a GPA that allows them to continue in the nursing program and achieve timely completion of a degree. The nursing department chair and director of financial aid select the recipient. Four to six scholarships are awarded per year ranging from $1,000–$4,000.
