Such careers include law enforcement and correctional activities at all levels of government that have the potential to progress to positions of leadership. The curriculum for the criminal justice major follows criteria proposed by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. Mission Statement The mission of Cedarville University’s Criminal Justice Program is to prepare students for graduate studies or entry-level positions in a variety of criminal justice fields and to prepare leaders who serve with integrity from a biblical worldview. Program Objectives Students will: • Practice a biblical worldview for lifelong leadership and service in the criminal justice profession. • Apply critical thinking skills within the context of the criminal justice profession. • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills for use in the criminal justice profession. • Conduct research effectively within the criminal justice profession. • Be prepared to become entry-level practitioners in criminal justice or pursue graduate studies. • Practice interacting effectively with persons of diverse populations. Core Values Students must be able to practice the following core values that are key to the criminal justice profession: • Integrity — Demonstrates high moral character and ethical standards in all matters public and private. • Service Orientation — Demonstrates lifelong leadership and service to all mankind. • Human Relations Skills — Demonstrates the ability to effectively interact with other people. • Team Compatibility — Demonstrates the ability to work with others in a cooperative, caring, and supportive manner to achieve goals of the group. • Performance Driven — Demonstrates the ability to set and achieve performance goals and standards.
