In this environment, we contribute to the body of nursing knowledge, provide leadership in nursing and health care arenas, and produce graduates who are grounded in biblical truth and demonstrate mastery in four primary areas: care, culture, godly living, and information management. Accreditation and Licensure National The school of nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. State The school of nursing has full approval by the Ohio Board of Regents and the Ohio Board of Nursing. Registration Graduates are eligible for admission to the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) for licensure as a registered nurse in any state. Personal Requirements Students who wish to apply for admission to Cedarville University and major in nursing need a strong commitment to leading a godly lifestyle and to learning ways to use nursing as a ministry for Christ. A college-preparatory curriculum including four years of both mathematics and science (algebra, biology, and chemistry are required) provides the best academic preparation for the nursing major. An ACT composite score of 24 (or SAT composite of 1100) or higher is required to enter the program. A select number of students who have not achieved these scores but have met the above curricular requirements and are otherwise eligible for admission to the University may be admitted to the pre- nursing program. These students may achieve admission into the nursing program by earning a 3.0 cumulative GPA at Cedarville and requesting full admission into the program. Department Requirements Progression to Nursing Clinical Courses Students apply for admission to the school of nursing clinical courses during the spring semester of their sophomore year. Students who meet the following criteria are admitted on a competitive basis: 1. Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students with a GPA of 2.8–2.99 may be admitted on probation pending available space. 2. Earn a “C-” or higher in all nursing and science courses, general psychology, and statistics. 3. Submit a written essay. 4. Receive a recommendation from the respective academic advisor. 5. Provide appropriate health information. 6. Pay a $25 non-refundable application fee. 7. Purchase liability insurance ($2 million/$5 million limits) through the school of nursing. 8. Obtain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). 9. Valid “No Record” FBI and BCI criminal background checks. 10. Demonstrate computer literacy. 11. Demonstrate a level of health consistent with safe nursing practice. 12. Complete required prerequisite courses prior to enrollment in clinical nursing courses. (Students may have no more than four outstanding general education or Bible courses prior to beginning nursing clinical courses.) 13. Have a plan for provision of own transportation to clinical experiences. Retention Requirements 1. Earn a grade of “C-” or higher in all nursing courses. 2. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher at the end of each semester junior and senior year. 3. Maintain current CPR certification and professional liability insurance. 4. Attain clinical objectives. 5. Receive a positive recommendation by the faculty of the school of nursing. Graduation Requirements 1. Earn a grade of “C-” or higher in all nursing courses. 2. Apply for state licensure and register for the NCLEX-RN. 3. Earn a passing score on a national standardized nursing examination selected by the faculty and taken during the spring semester of the senior year. 4. Receive a positive recommendation by the faculty of the school of nursing. 5. Meet University requirements for graduation. Financial Aid Federal Nursing Student Loans are available to qualified students who have been admitted to the nursing program. Some additional scholarships are available through our endowments although primarily offered to upperclassmen accepted into the school of nursing clinical courses. Information is available in the school office, the financial aid office, and on the financial aid website at cedarville.edu/finaid . Programs of Study Cedarville’s nursing program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree. Nursing students may also select a minor in cross-cultural nursing. Cocurricular Opportunities Christian Nurses Association The Christian Nurses Association promotes spiritual growth and professional development for nurses and service for the community. Membership is open to all nursing students. Nursing graduates obtain positions in the following settings: medical centers, public health departments, home health agencies, clinics, nursing homes, schools, work sites, mental health facilities, and mission fields.
