The ministry of the prophets to their own times is considered as well as their predictions, both fulfilled and unfulfilled. BEOT-3210 Historical Books I –Fa 3 hours Study of Joshua, Judges, and Ruth with an emphasis on the premonarchical history of ancient Israel, literary features of the texts, and the theology of the period. Prerequisite: BEGE-2730 Old Testament Literature; BEGE-2740 New Testament Literature; or permission of the instructor. (every third year) BEOT-3220 Historical Books II –Fa 3 hours Study of Samuel and Kings with an emphasis on the monarchical history of ancient Israel, literary features of the texts and the theology of the period. Prerequisite: BEGE-2730 Old Testament Literature; BEGE-2740 New Testament Literature; or permission of the instructor. (every third year) BEOT-3230 Historical Books III –Fa 3 hours Study of Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther and 1 and 2 Chronicles with an emphasis on the post-exilic history of ancient Israel, literary features of the texts and the theology of the period. (every third year) BEOT-3265 Minor Prophets –Sp 3 hours Study of Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. This course engages the historical, literary, and theological features of these books with a view to contemporary relevance. While the content of all 12 books are covered, the course concentrates on the methodology of interpreting prophetic literature through focused study of selected books and passages.. (even years) BEOT-3275 Major Prophets –Sp 3 hours The major prophets — Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel — reveal God and His relationship with His people in complex and beautiful ways. By examinging the historical, literary, and theological features of these books, the course builds a biblical theology of God in this important corpus of the Old Testament. While the content of all three of the major prophets are covered, the course concentrates on the methodology of interpreting prophetic literature through focused study of selected passages.
