EMTC-2220 Sound Design–Sp 3 hours This course is designed to prepare the media production student to create sound designs for readio, television, film and other audio media by studying the nature of sound, psychoacoustics, the power of the voice, sound effects, and music and how they can be used in combination with visual image to influence listeners/viewers. Students will create and execute a variety of sound designs for radio, television, and other audio media. Prerequisite: EMTC-1120 Audio Production . (Fee: $45) EMTC-2320 3 hours Preproduction and Planning for Video and Film–Fa This course examines the framework for preparation for video and film production in fiction and nonfiction programming. The duties of the producer and director are covered as they relate to scripting, budgets, legalities, scheduling, site surveys and other related preproduction duties for studio and field productions. (Fee $45) EMTC-2350 3 hours Introduction to Graphics for TV and Film–Fa An introduction to the creation and use of graphics for television and film. Topics covered include titling for main and “lower third” titles, motion graphics for program introductions and “bumps,” 2D and 3D animation and SFX for compositing with live action. (Fee: $45). EMTC-2606 2 hours Introduction to Computer Animation for Electronic Media–Fa An introduction to the use of 3D animation software. Intended for students who do not have a background in 3D animation and who need some directed help in preparing for EMTC-3065 Proficiency in Maya. May not be counted as major hours for broadcasting and digital media majors. (Fee: $45) EMTC-2610 Preproduction Planning–Fa 3 hours Examines the preproduction phase of television and multimedia productions. Topics covered include planning, specifications, contracts, scheduling, budgeting, and evaluation. Special emphasis is placed on project management and research to understand the design and effectiveness of television and multimedia projects. EMTC-2810 Sophomore Seminar–Fa 1 hours The sophomore seminar in broadcasting and digital media is designed to acquaint students with current trends in the electronic media and to aid students in formulating strategies for entry into careers in the electronic media. Prerequisite: EMTC-1110 Introduction to Electronic Media. EMTC-3061 Proficiency in Flash–Fa, Sp 0 hours The student will demonstrate the ability to create Flash animations and interactive programs. A list of resources is available from the interactive media faculty to help the student prepare to pass this proficiency requirement. (Fee: $10) EMTC-3062 Proficiency in Director–Fa, Sp 0 hours The student will demonstrate the ability to create interactive media products using Director. A list of resources is available from the interactive media faculty to help the student prepare to pass this proficiency requirement. (Fee: $10) EMTC-3065 Proficiency in Maya–Fa, Sp 0 hours The student will demonstrate the ability to create 3D models and animations in Maya. A list of resources is available from the interactive media faculty to help the student prepare to pass this proficiency requirement. (Fee: $10) EMTC-3111 3 hours Survey Research for Electronic Media–Sp The study of survey research methodologies used in electronic media, including audience analysis; program and screen design testing; station and website ratings. Includes an introduction to academic research in electronic communication using survey methodologies. Prerequisite: EMTC-1110 Introduction to Electronic Media. EMTC-3150 Media Ethics–Fa 2 hours Development of an applied theistic ethic for media practitioners. Topics for ethical examination include media content, business practices, advertising, journalism, privacy, and intellectual property rights. Crosslisted with JOUR-3150. Prerequisite: junior or senior status. EMTC-3151 2 hours Christian Approaches to Electronic Media–Sp Builds upon theistic critiques of the connections between society and technology to develop an understanding of how Christians approach the electronic media, both as consumers and practitioners. EMTC-3210 Digital Audio Post Production–Fa 3 hours This course is designed to teach the theories, principles, and practices of multi-track studio production. Emphasis will be given to the use of digital recording technologies and their usage related to other media. Prerequisite: EMTC-1120 Audio Production . (Fee: $45) EMTC-3211 Digital Music Production–Sp 3 hours This course offers students hands-on experience with modern mixing techniques, specifically utilizing Pro Tools hardware and software. Current theory and methods of signal processing utilized in the mix down process are covered. Each student will have the opportunity to mix various styles of music, critiqued by the instructor. This clas is for the serious student of audio who is interested in learning about the music production process. Prerequisites: EMTC-1120 Audio Production and EMTC-3210 Digital Autio Post Production. (Fee: $45). EMTC-3215 Live Sound–Fa 3 hours This course will prepare the student for work in live sound for churches and other venues. Through a series of lectures and labs, students will learn how to set up and operate a PA systems, operate mixers/consoles/control surfaces, trouble shoot problems in audio set-up, mix live sound, complete stage set-up, and the selection of microphones, amps, mixers, speakers and monitors. Prerequisite: EMTC-1120 Audio Production. (Fee: $45) EMTC-3216 Audio for Video and Film–Sp 3 hours Audio for video/film will expose the student to the theories and the practical challenges of gathering audio in the field as a part of a video/film project. The course will also focus on working with sound in the studio during post-production and will include areas such as automatic dialogue replacement and Foley sound effects. Students will record and produce all of the sounds for a major film project. Prerequisite: EMTC-1120 Audio Production and EMTC- 3210 Digital Audio Post Production. (Fee: $45). EMTC-3310 Digital Film Production–Fa 3 hours Taught from the producer’s perspective. Hands-on training dealing with all the variables in making a video’s and short films, including preproduction, production, and post-production non- linear editing platforms. Prerequisite: EMTC-2110 Video Technical Training or approval from the instructor. (Fee: $45) EMTC-3330 Screenwriting–Fa 2 hours An advanced writing course for students interested in learning the formal construction involved in writing a professional screenplay, with emphasis on dramatic writing and strong character development. Prerequisite: EMTC-2130 Writing for Electronic Media. EMTC-3350 Documentary Film –Fa 3 hours An overview of the origins, development, and current trends in the production of documentary films. Emphasis is given to the viewing and analysis of selected documentary programs.
