That Section 1 oi said or­ dinance be amended to read as follows: That each able bodied, fiiuie person be­ tween the ages of twenty-one and fifty- five years, resident of said village or 'er- ritory, thereto attached for road purpos­ es, and not exempt by law, is hereby re­ quired to perform by himself or a sub­ stitute to be provided by him in each year, two days labor upon the streets and alleys of said village, and the public roads and highways that lie within said territory: and provided further that any person required to perform said labor may have the option of paying into the Village Clerk or Village Treasurer the sum of $3.00 in lieu of performing such lahGr as provided by law, StC'XTON2.
