Take advantage o f this ADMINISTRATOR’S SALE The editor of. the Daily News-made a little experiment the other day in the way of -human nature. Oi\ in other words, hd undertook to ascer tain what the average man thinks ahoilt when asked to think. His con clusions were that It 1s human na ture to knock] that people “ oppose” more than “ favor.” Half a dozen persons were ap proached by the editor, Bach was asked to writp down upon a slip of paper two subjects for editorials, \yith the unders’ inding, of course, that the editor wou do as he pleased about writing upon the subjects suggested. Each- person was asked to name the first two editorials he would write if 'he were an editor, 1n other words, The six people, all of them in dif ferent walks of life, gave- the. editor twelve subjects -for editorials. Every one' of them was a “knock.” Not one ol' the persons approached wrote a subject calling for praise. Each wanl- at least two things "hit” anil hit hard. Now, several of the subjects men tioned were, pertinent. Several oE them were such as are not usually dealt with In the columns of a news paper. . But all of -them .were stabs at this or that, with- never a word of lovo -suggested by any of the parties. If an editor. Were to follow such ad vice, if he were to write -for a week along the lines suggested by these six persons, he would he ducked in the river its a common scold—or should he so treated. The paper, would become rx sour, disgruntled organ of liver-af fected people.' And yet the six per sons approached were of the’ -every day type, just stick persons, as one meets In business and society, and wore in no sense those whom we of ten hear described as having “ soured” upon the World. So the editor came to the conclu sion that he would Write whatsoever he desire* to- Writo In the future, re gardless of the advice of friends; that hb Vfpald knock such men and Measures •; he - believed should he knocked,- hut that he would. add a word of commendation, a spirit of optimism, here and there, and that even those who, desired him to •’knock” would be pleased with his work.—Dayton News,.
