The old breweries Ip. the state are giving employment to many tims the number of men that were, employed in the- manufacture of beer. The Rainier brewery is now a tannery and employs 1600 meii In the making of beer it employed 156 rnen. The Portland brewery .which employed 100 men in making beer is now giving .work to 500 men in mak­ ing furniture.
