What Will You Tell Your Children When This War Is Over7 Learn Facts—Sear the Great Patriot!?. Appeal, "Wake Up, America!" Cedamlle people will soon enjoy the privilege of' hearing the great patriotic war lectdre, “Wake Up* America/’ which will be delivered in . this city a t the Opera House, Monday, April IS,?a t 8 p. m., and the admis sion is free. . ; The lecture for the most part con sists of stereopticop slides and mov in g pictures, with each picture there is a reading slide that briefly points the moral of the picture. And strong as are th? spoken words of the lec turer and the words of the reading slide's, even stronger are. the p ic fres * themselves, depicting as they do, the horrors o f-the German methods, of - warfare. After hearing this lecture and viewing these pictures, one real izes as never before what i t would mean to us if the-war comes to this country, And afterwards ope feels that no sacrifice could be too great that will insure the winning of the war “over there,” In striking and' piteous contrast to American scenes of peaceful indus try are shown the -battle-torn fields and 1cities of France and Belgium. Everywhere is seen, the blood-stained track of the monster, that terriffic, destroying machine that spares nei ther man, woman nor child, that respects neither age nor sex that revels in lust and butchery that con siders any agent of destruction justi- i liable—the Prussian, Army* An understanding of the reason for the German viewpoint is given by pictures that show how for many years the German people have been educated to believe ■that “might rnakes right,” and that Germany is 'God’s favored nation. Monuments and statues of generals are shown lining the boulevards and occupying prominent places in public parks. Expensive paintings and tapestries commemorate scenes in former Ger man battles. Everywhere the empha s i s is placed on war. Germans have . been taught tha t war is natural and desirable, providing Germany wins. The early-education of the present despised ruler'of Germany is pictured, showing how, a t an age when the * average child is engaged in innocent play,, he was being taught th a t his , highest ambition -must be to rule With the mailed fist. Well has he carried out th e precepts o fh is teach ers. Blsmark, Vom Hindenburg, Serpstorf, and others are shown, all ble exponents of the doctrine " of ' and, iron. *Tfien a re seep school chanting the “Hymn of * * * * r . , . ‘j**- * Mbps sho’ir how strategically were built the railroads of Germany so as to,facilitate troop movements. .Then icome .pictures of Heligoland, the lo cation of the Kiel Canal, the; great . Krupp works.at Essen, and pictures of the German Army and Navy. Then comes the call to America to awake to .her danger. There are peals of thunder, artd lightning Aasl-cs from back of the scepes, all in conjunction with what has pre ceded, quickening the .heartbeat and thrilling the nerves with a sense of What it all means* America awakes and gets into -action with character istic enthusiasm. Then is shown our boys in khaki rallying to the colors. . We see m moving pictures the boys of the reg ular army and of the Rainbow Divis ion. in France, the conscnpts, state troops and those in cantonments ana training, schools.. General Pershing and •Marshall Joffre stand shoulder to shoulder. Our.-boys, with earnest and determined faces are seen march ing down to the shipB tha t mc to take them “over there,” as is Old Glory flying in the breeze and President Wilson, the man of thehour. Pic tures are also shown of aeroplanes.- There is a wonderful patriotic ap peal to this lecture and the man who ban see it without feeling his pulse tingle and without itching with de sire to do his part, is not only lacking in patriotism but is dead to sensation. Nothing is overdrawn, tru th is ob- sefved always, but it would be im possible to overdraw actual condl- ‘ tions. “Wake Up, America” has been pre sented in Washington to an audiencc made up Of many high officials, i t was received with great enthusiasm, received the official sanction and was S e e d e d to be grand in its concep tion, dramatic in its presentation and effective in its purpose.
