D*Yie in adjourning the legislature is with out precedent in the history of Ohio, He has exercised his constitutional .privilege as governor to adjourn the legislature of Ohio, establishing a precedent for others to follow should occasion'ever present itself. The state charter was written ip 1808 and not Until last week was this power ever exercised by any of the many Ohio governors in, the years past. This action was necessary owing to the division between the Senate and House over time of adjournment. The House called its work completed while ■ the Senate wanted to recess until .next December. The fription between j the two house was caused oyer the I tax problem. The House was opposed to any form of classification of prop erty for taxation, the Senate wanted classification or some modified foym. •The Senate also wanted" to dictate •gome of the Governor's appointments, ;or hold a club over him as* to confir- |motion. j The Governor no doubt did the ] proper thing in adjourning both 'houses. While both houses were Re publican by large majorities, yet the party was pledged in campaign prom ises to a revision of our tax laws, Governor Davis has stated that he will sumn\on both houses at a later date to take up the thx problem. He has under the constitution the power to define the subjects to, be taken up and the members can take up no other without his consent. Ttye jnembers of the 84th' general assembly have not.come up to the ex pectations as a body. Some good laws have been passed, particularly a road' protection law. The fight between, the rural and city elements must'be ob literated if progress is to be made in the state and the Republican' party credited with the sbccess hoped for. It' is no\ out of place at this time to state that Representative, M. A. Broadstone has ably represented the county and stood for such legislation as was best for the people of the state. On all moral issues he stood at the front, particularly the changing of the^law to legalize Sunday moving pictures. His support of legislation in the interest of foe farmers was all that could be asked for.
