THE BAT COMING. FRIDAY, DECEMBER, 9, 1981 TRUE CHRISTIAN CHARITY. There is a tendency at each Christ- mnstide for writers to urge too strongly, we think, the beauty of Christmas giving, by donation or distribution among the lowly or very poor. ’ No charity can he more beautiful, more typical o f the Christ spirit than for those who can afford to do so to send a glimmer o f light in to the lives of those who can eke out only a bare existance. But there is a class which is not reached by the donations o f the wealthy, or by the wo'rk o f charitable organizations. There are in this land many homes into which reverses o f fortune come each year; where business failure causes keen heart anguish and se vere self-denial. These homes shrink from the hand o f charity. “ Poor and proud” , the world calls them. Per- haps—hut let us say, friends, it is not easy to receive charity when, all your life you have dispensed it. A reversal o f fortune is ,the hardest thing in this world to bear. The poor know not its tortures. It. is the keenest kind o f poverty. 1 V . In this county, where one is up to day and down tomorrow, there is not one o f us but who, in his or her ac quaintances, knows o f an instance of reversed fortunes. Let some thing; from you go into such a home. The bom poor will be remembered by others; the newly-poor may be forgotten. CHRISTMAS SEAL SALE. To start with there is much specu lation over the play in the name se lected.-It is one o f those mystery play wherein there is much dramatic art. It is a play that requires much thot if the solution is to" lie found. “The Bat” has played in New York City fo r eighteen months and the company - that was in Chicago and comes to Xenia played nearly a year in that eity, More than a million per sons, have paid admissions to see the play that has one' o f the greatest cli maxes that can be imagined. The writer had the opportunity of seeing this play last August at the Princess Theatre, in Chicago. The show is clean in every respect and can be recommended to those who have a taste for dramatic art. Y o u c a n ’t b e a t ’ e m \ THE BONUS MONEY. Charles Darlington >f Xenia, com mander of tlie Ohio American Leg)chi stated to the Herald this week that so fa r as he could see the soldier boys should be getting their bonus soon after the first o f the year. SEASON OPENS. sss Tho 1921-22; basketball season will open in Cedarville on Dec. ,14. A t this time the College team will meet the Ohio Mechanics Institute o f . Cin cinnati. This is one o f the strongest teams the College will play this year ag evidenced by the fact that last season they piled up C04 points a- gainst their opponents 269. Owing to some irregularities in the schedule there w {ll be no preliminary game as the girls team will probably go to Wilmington on Dec. 15. The boys team lost only two o f last year’s players and the squad is en larged by several Freshmen and oth er new students. The members of last year’s winning girls team are all back fo r this season’s team. The prospects are good for winning teams for both boys and girls. The following is the prospective schedule.
