THE CHILDISHNB6S OF THE CHILD Whsn * thoughtful parson looks into the face o f a little child ho see* written there, apd also in the palms o f his bands and tho soles o f his feet, the word, POSSIBILITY, Meditate on that-word, POSSIBILITY, Con- . tipue to read it and think about its meaning and you w f l discover that the word leads you into one o f two directions It is possible fo r that lit tle child to become a great man, to be o f incalcuable benefit to his gen eration, and to leave upon posterity * the Imprint o f a noble life. The other direction shows that it ia possible fo r that child through neglect to become a criminal—aneducated criminal— who will blight the lives ,o f thousands o f people and increase the tax bur den o f the community in which he lives. It is .possible fo r him to become a curse to. his family, a menace to^ society, and a blot on the page o f his** tory. Which' direction do -you want the POSSIBILITY to take in-your child’s case! The child ia the indispensable unit, the essential factor, and the master in all spheres o f human, activity. Around the child the world must re volve. From the child society must evolve, .Heaven bends to bless and breathe a benediction o f infinite love upon the child—the -infant king—of social destinies. The child cannot be? Come great, useful and powerful if the childishness o f the child is taken from it; if he is robbed o f the spirit Of youth; taken out o f the sphere o f innocency, and deprived o f the domes t i c blessings that belong to him. a 'CA$1$A The curse o f this hour is the child- ishlessness o f children.. W e haven’t Children any more. Babies are plung ed into the maelstrom o f social ini quity, They are prematurely advan ced .to girlhood and boyhood, and are ushered on the stage where young men and young women play the fool fo r th* pleasure o f a world o f vul tures. Parents are ambitious fo r their daughters to become social fac tors and fo r their sons to become social leaders; consequently,* t h e / are prematurely advanced. In ad vancing them, forcing them, and in troducing them to a world o f social maturity they are robbing them of their childish .nature, inclinations, innocency, pleasure, and sweetness. One can stand in the midst o f so- called young men and young women and. cry o i t in anguish and sorrow, “Where are the children! O, whert- are the children!” The girls o f today know more than theiy grandmothers knew at seventy-five years o f age. Boys can teach their old, aged grandfathers. Where are the children? ' The Juvenile Society o f today is a curse, an infamous blot pn the page of American history. It is so’ because parents have robbed their children of childhood. : V The W orld’s Ghepaest Insurance ■: .
