The Research Club was entertained ^Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs, Carter N. Abet The gas company in Columbus ask­ ed for a higher rate. Council granted a forty cent rate. The company did not accept end wanted a referendum from the citizens. This was taken on Tuesday, and a majority of 40,000 was given-the forty -cent rate. The company now says it will be' 57 L-2 cents orho gas. The company will ap­ peal to the Public- Utilfties Co. Which does not have much consideration for the gas consumer. One.- member is said to- be a holderj ) f gas company stock. *r" ‘ ' _ Stephen Whalen Of Uribana, who for a number of years has been an, employee o f the Hagav-Strsw Board Paper Co,, died last Saturday at the Miami Valley hospital following an operation six weeks ago. His home was in Ufbaha where he has resided for some year*. He is survived by his wife a son add a daughter. Burial took place at Clifton Monday.
