Federation, and the Farm Bureau the farm bureau. The committee was appointed by the state farm bureau after receipt o f protests by county bureaus to policies o f the state feder­ ation. * The meeting will open at 10:30 a. m,, when Mrs. Elmer Hetzel o f Xenia district secretary, will give her report. Elevator Officers To Hold Meetings W ill Consider Problem* O f Management W ith ' Extension Men Officers of farmer-owned elevators m a doezn Ohio counties are being invited to attend a series of meetings ariunged by .the Agricultural Exten­ sion Service o f the Ohio State. Univer­ sity this winter, to discuss problems o f elevator management and o f soils, crops, and feeding which are of inter­ est to both officers and patrons o f the elevators, Each meeting will include in its program talks by members of the agricultural Extension Service and also open discussions by elevator men themselves, on any subject which they wish to raise, A dozen or more ele­ vators are located in each county where a meeting will be Held, . “ Dairy Feeds and Feeding” will be the topic o f C. L. Blackman and Ivan McKellip, extension, specialists in dairying. B, A. Wallace, specialist in marketing, will give the results of some studies in elevator margins and costs o f operation. The county agent of each county where a meeting is held wilt suggeest methods in, which elevator manager and agents may work together. Wallace will head d round table devoted to the, newly- created Federal Farm Board and its related organizations, as they are of interest to elevators. .Meetings thus far definitely sched­ u led 'a re as follows: Norwalk, for Huron and Erie Counties, December 11; Ashland, fo r Ashland County, December 12; Mansfield, for Richland County, December 18; Delaware, .for Delaware County, December 17, and Medina for Medina County, December 18. Other meetings ■will be held in January and later through the win­ ter, in other counties. Similar series o f meetings have been held by the agricultural extension ser­ vice each year since 1925, No Hibernation For Good Porch Boxes Filled W ith Evergreens They May Stay Out A ll Through the Winter Porch boxes needn’t retreat to the basement as cumbersome nuisances void o f beauty or use, just because summer has fled. They may be even more effective in the winter than in the summer, says Victor H. Ries, ex­ tension floriculturist fo r the Ohio State University. . , Evergreens are the secret o f the all-year porch box program. Some­ times it is advisable, says RieSe, to buy cheap ones and discard them in the spring. If more expensive ones are installed,' it is quite feasible to put them out in the yard in April. The cheaper evergreens for porch box use are Norway Spruce, American arbor vitae, Austrian pine and red pine. These are all tall growing shrubs and should' be' used .as future shade trees if they are set out in the spring, Ries cautions. Lower growing evergreens, which are more expensive, are Pfitzer juni­ per, Mugho pine, Japanese yew, pro­ strate juniper, and hemlock. English ivy and the winter creeper, Euonymus radicans, are also effective. So, shys Ries, are yuccas and the common myrtle or periwinkle.
