U. j The traffic commissioner of Gleve- • land, 0 ., recently said that the in- i crease in deaths from auto accidents ! in that city was due to drunken driv- ! ing. i Mr. Raymond Cato, chief of high way patrol in California says that re ports received from January, 1934, in dicate an increase of more than 11 per cent in futilities involving drunk en drivers over January of 1933 and that February figures appear to in dicate an even greater increase, “Our figures for the full year of 1933 show an appalling increase. In deed, they show a 40 per cent increase in fatal accidents involving drunken driving and a 26 per cent increase in all types of accidents in which drink ing played a part. “No man who has been drinking is a safe driver. He may think so but ha is not," • Rum and champagne ice cream, rum buns, and. pies heavily flavored with brandy and other forms of liquor are being widely advertised in many east ern cities, particularly in Washington, 1 ). C., where a popular bakery.recent l y announced “Straight from Jamai ca, pure rum flavoring, eggnog pie.” Clarence Darrow and Dr. Clarence True Wilson were debating. Said Dar row; "I bought some grape juice and pat it away for a month, and God turned it into wine.” Wilson replied; ‘How about eggs? Nature in time will do the same thing to them. But I don’t .insist on eating them addled becabse it was nature that fixed them that way; I don’t argue my right to put them on the market,” Darrow had no answer.—The Defender. A director of the Brewers’ Society, speaking of a national campaign for beer advertising, says: “The beer-drinking habit must be instilled into thousands—almost mil lions of young men who do not at present know the taste of beer. These yciung men, if. they start with what beer they can afford today,'as they' grow up they will afford better beers to the greater advantage of the brew ing industry.” . 9 9 REPORT OF SALE Monday, April 9, 1934 The Springfield Live Stock Sales Co. Dated this 5th day of April* 1934, , S. G. WEIGHT, ■ Judge of the Probate Court, Greene County, Ohio,. STRONG ARRAY OF PICTURE ATTRACTIONS IN SPRINGFIELD A new team of romantic stars, Clark Gable and Myrna Loy, will be seen in “Men In White” at the Regent Theater starting Sunday. According to available information this attrac- j tion strikes a new high in a year of ! sensational picture releases and is contended to present the two stars in such favorable type of action as to pressage their rise to public favor akin to the coveted places now held by the inimitable team of Dressier and Beery, The State Theater, Springfield, will show Fredric March and pretty Eve lyn Venable in “Death Take's A Holi day” starting Saturday, This is the picture about which so much publicity has gone forth contending that it is at direct variance with anything ever presented on the screen before. The spectacle of Death in human form, calling a halt to the ravages of the Grim Reaper during the three-day holiday while he is making love, is said to be presented in a fascinating manner rather than capitalizing on the shock psosibilities a plot of this kind affords. At the Fairbanks Theater starting Sunday, talented Aline MacMahon gets her first starring opportunity in “Heat Lightning,” heralded' as a ro mantic drama that becomes almost melo-dramatic in its fast action and rapid tempos. Love interest and thrilling adventure are admirably sprinkled with cleverly inserted comedy and tremendous emotional ap peal.
