Miss Elizabeth Nigh and Miss Marjorie Heilman, o f the Ohio Sales Tax Section, worked eight and one-half hours to sort, segregate, and bind that number o f stampsaccording to denomina tions, as required by the Ward law which places a redemptive yalue o f 8 per cent* on sales tax stamps starting May 1. Over 20,000, stamps in the test pile were of one-cent, two-cent, and three-cent denominations, But the test was ptyvosely run under a disadvantage which may Be entirely eliminated by stamp- collecting organizations, accord ing to J. E. Williams, chief of the sales tax section. The big gest time-consuming factor in the experiment was the sorting of the stamps according to de nominations. Mr. Williams, there fore, is recommending to all rer demption-seeking agencies that they request all persons to sort ana segregate their stamps-be fore submitting them to the group’s collection committee. If this suggestion is enforced by. the organization,, the mini- - mum $100 in face value ■of stamps which may be turned in to the Tax Commission for $3 cash' redemption will take two people only one' hour to count arid bind, on the basis- of the test run. Sup pose we compare some o f the brewer's statements with the,, when beer came back. The truth, the whole truth and noth ing bu the truth! The Brewers say: “ The tax on beer alone pays the cost o f education for every schood-child in the U. S. for one year.” The truth is: Beer tax in 1937 was approximately $300,000,000. Cost o f public Bchool education was more than six times this figure, or $2,000,000,000! And America spends $13.50 per capita for erucation, and $40 per capita for booze! To remain ignorant is to remain a slave. If you can’t drink intelligently don’ t drink at all. If you drink at nil, you can’t drink intelligently enough to drive an automobile witli safety. It is well to boar in mind that your life and the life of others is in your hands when you drive, therefore, it is wise t o (be a complete teetotaler at such time.—North Amrican Union News.' , And it is wiser and better to be “ a complete teetotaller" all the time. Leonardi Bianchi, professor of nerv ous and mental disease in the Royal University, Naples, is quoted in the National Temperance Quartely as say-, ing: “ An alcoholic ihothcr gives to. the world either a prostitute or a delin quent, when she does not give an epileptic, an idiot, or a lunatic.” This statement should alarm the women and girls who are drinking to day.
