Asks forSafe DrivingonFourth Drive safely and be alive after the Fourth of July weekend was the appeal made today to Ohio motorists by T. J. Kauer, Direc tor o f the Ohio Department of Highways. Although fireworks no longer constitute the chief hazard, Di rector Kauer pointed out that the Fourth is still the most dang erous day of the year because of traffic accidents and drownings.. And traffic accidents, he re minded, are by far a greater haz ard than drownings. Kauer urged motorists to cele brate the Fourth by taking it easy in traffic and being on the alert for other drivers who are not smart enough to he careful. The State Highway Depart ment’s Division o f Traffic and Safety offered these safety tips I to drivers: { (1) Begin your trip a little bushels A -l corn, earlier so you won’t be tempted to speed. Remember that Speeders Lose. (2) Adjust speed to the condition j baler, Bob Cotter phone 0-1205. of the road, weather, traffic, your ‘ car and yourself. (3) Do your slowing down before reaching curves and intersections. (4) Don’t cut in and out of heavy traffic. Stay in line until passing is safe. (5) At night drive so that you can stpp within the clear, illumi nated distance ahead. (0) Don’t drink i f you drive and don’t drive if you drink. fo r the nation and the world. Beef and lamb, however, will be shorter owing to the decrease in production, the report says. The year’s production o f hog’s, if the estimate on spring pigs is correct, will run around 96,- 000,000, the largest since the war year o f 1943. Veterans to Get Cash Refunds Veterans o f World Whr II are to get cash refunds on GI life insurance policies they took out, according tp a Washington an nouncement. Under the plan each veteran would receive about $175, with payments beginning in. January, 1950. The estimated cost o f the pro gram is around $3 billion.
