2002 Cedarville College becomes Cedarville University with unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees. 2001 Women's cross country team wins NAIA national title. 2000 Elliv, which is 'ville spelled backward, makes its debut. This end-of-year, student-run event showcases the diverse talents of the student body. 1994 Engineering students compete in the first cardboard canoe race on Cedar Lake. Entries from other departments can now participate in the event, which takes place homecoming weekend. cedarville 130 th Anniversary Timeline 2005 Student volunteers stream to the Louisiana and Mississippi coastline in October to show the love of Christ to residents devastated by Hurricane Katrina. More than 600 students volunteer 14,000 hours during fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring breaks cleaning debris, clearing out destroyed homes, and helping in any way they can. 1996 Dixon Ministry Center built; home to the new James T. Jeremiah Chapel. 2003 William E. Brown named president. 2006 Campus Christmas is held for the first time. This holiday tradition turns the Stevens Student Center into a winter wonderland and includes music, Christmas movies, games, pictures with Santa, late-night breakfast, and time with Cedarville’s president. Above all, students celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ before they head home for Christmas break. 1990 The first class of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering students is enrolled. 8 | Cedarville Magazine
