cedarville 130 th Anniversary Timeline 1954 Frank Jurkat, professor of classic and modern languages and history, dies. His career spans 59 years, from 1895, two years before the first graduating class, to the beginning of Baptist leadership of the college. He is the only professor to serve under both Presbyterian and Baptist administrations. 1968 Cedarville hosts its first “Cedar What?” mock presidential election. The tradition continues until 1992. 1969 Cedar Lake created. 1953 Cedarville College merges with Baptist Bible Institute (BBI). 1954 James T. Jeremiah named president. 1962 Cedarville’s new gymnasium and college center built; converted to Tyler Digital Communication Center in 2002. 1970 Cedarville students, along with President James T. Jeremiah and his wife, Ruby, appear on the nationally syndicated The Phil Donahue Show , broadcast from Dayton, Ohio. 1970 Legendary Cedarville basketball coach Don Callan leads his team on a missions trip to Japan and the Philippines, launching Mission Involvement Services (MIS). MIS merged with Community Ministries in 2014 to become Global Outreach. 6 | Cedarville Magazine
