10 INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION MICHELE (CUMMINGS) SOLOMON ’91 For her doctoral thesis, Danielle (Scarpone) Fredette ’12, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, looked deeply into the subject of autonomous vehicles and intelligent transportation. Now she gets to pass along her love of research to Cedarville students as the University’s newest electrical engineering professor. Stephen Ayers, Professor of Civil Engineering, offers his vision for the new bachelor’s degree program, including its potential impact on cross- cultural ministry. 16 HIGH-TECH JACKETS JEFF GILBERT ’87 SeaLandAire Technologies, Inc. in Jackson, Michigan, is developing cutting-edge drone technology — on the water and in the air — that can collect logistical information for military and other applications. Cedarville engineering alumni are a critical part of SeaLandAire’s research and development. 13 DATA DEFENDERS MADI CANNON ’17 So much of daily life is governed by data-driven technology — ATMs, smartphones, computers, smart TVs, and more. While such devices enable amazing access to a world of possibilities, they also open our personal information to the risk of identity theft and other foul play. Cedarville’s cybersecurity program is preparing a new generation of defenders of our digital society.
