Cedarville Magazine, Summer 2025

Brought to You by Sports Information FROM SMALL-TOWN START TO HALL OF FAME FINISH When Carsyn Koch Johnson arrived at Cedarville University in 2014 from the tiny town of Washburn, Maine, few could have predicted the heights she would reach — or how fast she’d get there. This spring, Johnson was inducted into the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Hall of Fame — a fitting honor for one of Cedarville’s most decorated athletes. Her story is nothing short of extraordinary. A four-time NCAA Division II national champion in the 800 meters, Johnson was a seven-time AllAmerican who shattered expectations and records alike. She still holds the second-fastest outdoor 800m time in Division II history at 2:02.39, a performance that earned her a place on the national stage at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. Her indoor best of 2:05.65 remains among the top 10 in Division II history. But Johnson wasn’t just a standout on the track. She made her mark in cross country as well, earning AllRegion honors twice and helping lead the Lady Jackets to a historic team finish at the 2016 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. Throughout her time at Cedarville, Johnson broke five indoor and four outdoor school records and was twice named G-MAC Female Athlete of the Year. Her versatility, grit, and relentless pursuit of excellence made her a role model on campus and a trailblazer in the conference. Today, Johnson lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with her husband, Colby, and their two children. For Cedarville, her story is a reminder that with discipline and determination, even the smallest beginnings can lead to historic finishes. YELLOW JACKET SPORTS 34
