His antipathy to slavery soon .made his location untenable, and as previously stated, he emigrated to Greene county with nearly all his corigre– gation. As a ·religious leader, he exerted an influence which has impressed itself ineradicably upon the character of _the people. His fame as an educator was wide-spread. For many years he · co1~ducted an .academy where yom;g men were prepared f<:ir college, or directly f6r active life. He was a professqr in the R P. Seminary ,it Philadelphia, and a trustee of Miami Univer– sity.' He d,ied· with his armor on, and was buried in Massie's Creek cemetery, on the very spot where his pulpit had stood. 18
