The Presbyteries of Scotland and Ireland now raised themselves to the rank of Synods, and to avoid the anomaly of a seeming but otherwise unavoidable subjection to either or both of them, the American Presbytery also constituted itself the Synod of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in the United States of North America, which became a delegated body in 1823.
