ROBISON Electrician and Plumber Phone 4-9151 Jamestown Why You Should Trade At Home THIS CHRISTMAS TO TRADE ELSEWHERE IS TO LIMIT THE GROWTH OF YOUR HOMETOWN For every dollar spent with your local merchants, a considerable sum is returned to you through services rendered by your HOMETOWN, and through donations and aids to worthy causes. For every dollar spent in some other community, a considerable sum is taken away from the forces which cause your community to grow and prosper and thus limits not only its growth, but the further expansion of your local merchants, the stocking of more of your needs for resale and the drying up of sources of progress. YOUR PROBLEM IS YOUR LOCAL MERCHANT’S PROBLEM Have you ever tried to take your personal problems to some mail order h o u s e , or some storeman quite a distance away from your hometown?Did you recognize that your local merchant is your friend and that when you are in need he will come to your aid. Have you ever asked a mail order house or an out-of-town mer chant to help build your c hu r c h , or d o n a t e to your school, or join your PTA? Have you ever asked a mail order house or a faraway merchant to give you a rec ommendation for a job, sign your note, cash your per sonal check? All of these things your local merchant c a n and will do for you. THEY CONTRIBUTE TO EVERY WORTHY CIVIC CAUSE Your l o c a l merchants are called upon every day for donations to worthy causes and usually respond liber ally. There is the Red Cross drive, the Boy Scout drive, the Heart Fund, the March of Dimes, church building funds, PTA, the many funds that the schools must have. Your merchants have been particularly generous in the past years for these worthy local-causes and, through sacrifices, have provided many sources of local in come not otherwise available. YOUR LOCAL MERCHANTS EMPLOY LOCAL WORKERS Your local merchants employ many people in your hometown. They cannot employ all they would if your dollar goes elsewhere. By the same token, if they re ceive enough trade they can employ more people and thus h e l p to absorb our local labor. Can you imagine how many people would be employed if all the dollars spent in outtrade radius were spent With our local mer chants? Do you have any idea the number of d o l l a r s spent elsewhere for merchandise which could have been easily purchased here?. THEY HELP IN A BIG WAY TO PAY LOCAL TAXES Local taxes are used to provide police protection, to build streets, to p r o v i d e fire protection, to provide lights for the s t r e e t s , to h e l p keep the town clean. Your local merchant not only p a y s the usual property tax, paid by every p e o p e r t y owner, but a l s o state, county and city license t a x e s , personal taxes and ad v a l o r e m taxes. His tax burden is pretty heavy. The sales tax he collects g o e s into the state coffers and is returned to the county and village for its use. YOUR MERCHANT HAS NATIONALLY ADVERTISED ITEMS Yourlocal merchant carries the samelines of nation ally advertised merchandise as stores in 1 a r g e r cities and mail order houses. Many of these i t e m s cost you less at home than elsewhere because, generally, your local merchant's operating e x p e n s e s are less. Many others are fair-trade items and sell for the same the world over. And have you ever counted the cost of gas oline, the cost per mile on your car, the day's work lost, the wear and tear on yourself in shopping in t h e big city? These and many other things should be taken into consideration before you leave your hometown to trade elsewhere. his Message Sponsored By The Greene County Guardian
