St. John, the son of Mrs. Walter St. John of Jamestown, has a s s ume d command of the L a nd s t u h l Army Medical Center in Germany. His command includes four hospitals and five ambulance trains. General St. John has a long military career behind him. He saw e x t e n s i v e duty in World War II, being assigned to the M e d i c a l Section of General P a t t o n ' s Western Task Force in September of 1942 and making the amphi­ bious landing at Casablanca that November. The following January he was assigned to the Medical Section of Fifth Army Head­ quarters and took part in the F i f t h Army 's invasion of Salerno in September of that y e a r . He was awarded the L e g i o n of Merit, Medal of V alor (Italian) and Comman - der of the Royal Order of the Crown (Italian) and in addi­ tion he has six c a m p a i g n stars. The g e n e r a l was born in Jamestown in 1905 and was g r a du a t e d from the high school here in 1922. He re­ ceived a bachelor's degree from Ohio State University in 1926 and his MD in 1928. General St. John is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is married to the former Evelyn Lackey of Jamestov n. They have one d a u gh t • r , Mrs. Richard Layman, and a g r ands on , Larry. Mr. and Mrs. L a yma n and son live in Phil ielphia. WSCS met at the home of Mrs. Fred St. John Tuesday afternoon. Fifteen members and two guests were present. The worship service was held by Mrs.Walter St.John. Mrs. James Bone used as her pro­ gram, "Rocks and Rills and Templed Hills, " taken from the s t udy course, Missions USA. The president, Mrs. Willard Garringer, appointed the nominating committee for the election of officers in April. They are fvlrs. James Bone, Mrs. Russell Dean and Mrs. Earl Wooley. Plans were also made and committees appointed for a Mother and Daughter Banquet to be held in May. Refreshments were served by Mrs. St. John and her co-hostess, Mrs. Elmer Hagler andMrs. Russell Dean. Pvt. Norman Roberts, who has been stationed at Camp P e nd l e t o n , C alif., sailed Feb. 19 for a tour of duty in Japan. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D e lm as Roberts, Washington, Rd. S/Sgt. Roger E. Scott, who is stationed at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington D. C ., arrived in Xenia Friday. His wife and two children, who have been making their home in X e n i a , will leave with Sgt. Scott Saturday to make their new home in Mt. Rain­ ier, Md. Mr. and Mrs. Harley John- son had as their guest recently Mr. and Mrs. William Patton and family of Xenia and Mr. Wayne Stewart of Richmond, Ind. Mr. and Mrs. James Bone and family spent Sunday as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mar­ vin Daughterey of Sabina. Mrs. Walter St. John had as her supper guest Monday evening Mrs. Mildred Blasco, of Huntsville. Mr. andMrs. William Fudge, Grieves Rd., had as their re­ cent dinner guests, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fudg e , Mrs. Ert Huston and Phillip Tidd. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Perry and sons had as their guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Bogart Rogers and family of Dayton. The I n t e r m e d iate Youth Fellowship held their meet­ ing at the c h u r c h Monday e v e n i n g from 4 to 6 p.m. ten members and the two adult leaders, Mrs. Francis Howe and Mrs. Chester Jenks, were present. All young peo­ ple of the c ommu n i t y are invited to attend. Mr. and f^rs. Vergil Wells had as their guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. William All- bright and son Jeffie of New Carlisle. Verde-Ja Meet At Gerardl Home The March meeting of the Verde-Ja Garden C l u b was held Monday at the home of Mrs. Earl Gerard. A business meeting was conducted by the president, Mrs. Norman Linton. An arrangement was pre­ pared by Mrs. Frank Harris. Adams were the lucky winners of a Westinghouse Electric Range at the grand opening of the Fre-Don F u r n i t u r e Store, Xenia. Mr. Arthur Tolle, who has been a p a t i e n t at Fayette Memorial Hospital, has been removed toMt. Carmel Hos­ pital, Columbus, for further treatment. His room number is 557. Funeral services were con­ ducted Monday for Mrs. Eva Blanche Fixx who died last Thursday in Xenia at the age of 73. Among survivors are a s i s t e r and brother, Mrs. Lau r a Pickering and Harry Devoe, both of Jamestown. Mr s . F i x x was bo r n in Paintersville but had been a lifelong resident of Xenia. She was a m e m b e r of the Sp r i n g V a l l e y Methodist Church. Funeral services were held from the Neeld Funeral Home with the Rev.
