Nick Tanchen Found Dead in Room at 71 Nick Tanchen, Russian-born shoemaker who had lived in Jamestown since 1921, was found dead in his room early last F r i d a y morning at the Heifner Hotel in Jamestown. He was 71. Mr. Tanchen had been in failinghealth for some time. Stover._________________ 4-H CLUB MEETS T h e Jamestown Kitchen ettes 4-H Club met Tuesday night at Greeneview South School. The club now has 22 members. The leaders are Mrs. Virginia Rudduck, Mrs. Betty Jones and Mrs. Mary Fowler. The p r e s i d e n t , Connie Lockwood, read the rules of the club. The s e c r e t a r y , D i a n e Ward, read the roll call and two members were absent. The members voted to have dues of ten cents at each meeting. The next meeting will be Ap r i l 9 at 7 p.m . at the school. . He has no known relatives in this country. Funeral services were held Monday at the Powers Funer al Home with the Rev. Ferd inand Kylius, p a s t o r of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial was in J ame s t own Cemetery. LEGION CELEBRATS The American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary of Ce- darville celebrated the Le gion ’sbirthday Saturday eve ning with a covered dish sup per. Grange Host Jamestown The third and fourth degrees in the i n i t i a t i o n of new members were conferred on a large class of candidates last T h u r s d a y night. The Grange at Bowersville played host to Jamestown and to gether they inducted their c o m b i n e d classes. While some half dozen others were unable to be present the fol l ow i n g people were taken into full membership of the order: Larry Copeland, Dean C o p e l a n d , James Hoover, Owen Ande r s on , Sherman Bowen, Larry Guthrie, Roger Guthrie, Harold Arthur, Nor man D un 1ap, Jane Pollard, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Morris, Mr. and Mrs. J o h n Albers, Mr. and Mrs. James Huffman, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Taylor, Harry Scott, Charlotte Tay lor and Hugh Haines. Mi s s H a z e l C h a f f i n ol Jamestown sang, very nicely, the appropriate degree songs. The c a r n a t i o n -decorated Jamestown team was headed by Mr. Eldon Heinz as Mas ter and Mrs. W. M. Henry played the marches. D e g r e e team Master for Bowersville was Mr. G e n e Guthrie and Mrs. Guthrie was pianist. County Deputy Grange Mas- ter Howard Wilson and Mrs. Wilson were present for their duties of d e g r e e work in spection. •Local Master Dick Jenks in vited the near-hundred crowd to the dining room for food and fellowship. The Jamestown Merchants Association, at its Thursday night m e e t i n g in Curley's Restaurant, voted to draft a formal letter of welcome to the implement dealers' or ganization and pledge the local group’s cooperation in staging the show.
