Th fir t meeting wa held in the hi toric man ion whicl1 then ,va the home of the ollege. The name elected wa "Philadelphian ' or in the abbr,eviated form, "Philo". Ever ince the fir t meeting the m mber have hown unflagging intere t in the d velopment of their variou a hilitie and in making a society "hich hall alway tand for the be t in the literary lin . During the first year the ociety held a public conte t ,d1ich made the talent of the member known to the community. ince that :·ear ther have been many conte t of variou kinds and in every on '·Philo'' ha been activ,e. A yearly banquet to the new tudent , fa u1ty alumni. and friend ha become an e taLli hed cu tom. In the uring of 1910 the society pre ented the famou drama of •'heridan '. '' The Rival " . The succe of the undertaking wa uch a warranted the e tabli hing of thi a an annual event, and in 1\Iay of 1911 the play entitled ' A crap of Paper ' was taged. In the fall of 1910 the hall wa newly d corated and make a hand ome place for holding the we kly meeting . Th e member hip now number near thirty, and e,·ery one an ardent upport er of the "Black and Gold".
