Each i encouraged to bring his candle Sunday to help fini sh decorating the birthday cakes. Each children's department has an individual cake and a huge cake in the main auditorium represent the youth and adult department . Each year colored slides of the church's past his– tory are shown at the beginning of the evening service . Our people have slides that date back twenty years. The past building programs are al so shown by lide including ground breaking, cornerstone laying, etc . It is well to take slides every year of special church events and then review them on this special day. Many other such Sundays can be planned such as Round-Up-Sunday , Teacher Appreciation Sunday, God and Country Sunday, Police and Fire– men's Sunday. Just use your "sancti– fied imagination" as there is no 1 imit as to what can be done. In advance of some special days, our church people are encouraged to turn in names and addresses of people whom they will invite personally. Then as pastor , I send a letter of invitation to each of these fam i1 ies inviting them to be present. The 1970 anniversary letter invita– tion read : 18 This Sunday, November 8, marks the high point of our church year - the 35th Anniversary of the founding of Calvary Baptist Cl1urch. One of your friends here at Calvary asked that I write extending to you a personal invitation to be with us OCTOBER, 1971 I t)l' t 11 is 1110111c11t tis ccasio11 l1cgi n- 11i11 ~ at tl1c l : .. I an1 ure you wil l appreciate the fine quality of Bible teaching a pre en ted by each teacher at the 9 : 30 ti nd ay chool hour. Much effort has gone into the planning of thi pecial day and a pa tor I am looking forward to hav– ing many visitors in the 9: 30 Sun– day School hour for this blessed An– niversary Day. ' 'Sanctified lmaginatjon' ' Many professional promotion items can be obtained free through business establishments such as signs, banners, pictures. Most of these items are dis– carded by business men after several weeks of use. By storing such articles and using "sanctified imagination" when the need arises, professional ad– vertising can be done by the local church at little cost. One needs to use quality materials in promotion for first impressions are often lasting im– pressions as to the image of the church through eyes of visitors. " "'J he l... ord gave the Word : great wa~ tl1c company of tho c that pub– )i\ 11 c d i l" ( P s. 68 : 11 ) May od he1 p our churches to catch the vi ion of what can be done as we ystematica lly promote the l... ord's work wit h vibra nt sanc lifie(I enthusiasm. By no means i5 the planning of promotion to ever take the place o f wcl 1 prepared teachers and the preach– ing of the Word of God. However regularly planned promotion will at– tract some unsaved people and the Spirit of God can use santified pro– motion to stir the regular members of the church to their responsibility of wi tnessing and inviting others. New people mean new prospects; new pro.. pec ts means souls to be reached for Chri st; souls saved on a regular basis in our churches bring encouragement and growth; encouragement and growth provide vision for the church leadership. Discouraged pastor, Sunday School superintendent, department head, in– stead of resigning and looking toward another field, why not sit down and plan with new vision what God wants to do through you in your present field. The greatest blessing in your present work could be just ahead by careful planning. G r e a t Sunday Schools for God's glory are built by careful planning. With out a plan your Sunday School is planned to fail. J O U R N E Y OF A T R A C T Paul J.
