Pastor Jim Read reports, 'To develop some enthusiasm, Fred [Pastor Fred Robb, Calvary] and I did the following : We set a personal challenge between us-I wash and wax his car if I lose and he buys me breakfast if he loses. We exchanged pulpits on the first Sunday morning ...on the need to attend Sunday school and study the Word. Our churches decided to give a gift certificate from a Christian bookstore to the library of the winning church. We called each week after Sunday school to announce the attendance for the week. We announced the weekly winner during the morning service. We both had a good time challenging our people and we both saw much improved attendance. Our Sunday school superintendent, Cliff Beobm, went so far as to let those who brought the most visitors throw pies in his face. Although we [Pleasant Heights] won three of the five weeks, the percentage kept it a very close contest until the final Sunday. I would recommend a similar challenge to other churches-our people really liked it and we saw many new faces and some old faces that have been absent for some time." ~ A Men' s Day at the Range 1-- was the June outreach for BP.
