Sir The praises you were pleased to bestow oft me, were altogether unnecessary on your part, as I consider myself too young to form any acquaintance with young men of any kind,- and indeed I could not well excuse you for writing to a person like me, with whom you had not much acquaintance. In the first place, it would not be prudent in me to answer a letter of the kind that you have sent me; and in the second place, I would not displease my parents in holding correspondence witn any person without their knowledge, a liberty that would perhaps soon annihilate the future prospects of my destiny.
