TO THE READER. A very few weeks only have gone by, since I requested you to read, Number One. It is probable that you have complied with my request; for the publishers inform me they are already at work upon the ninth edition, and have been requested, by the friends of temperance, in the state of New York, to permit them to strike off one hundred thousand copies for gratuitous distribution. I have been cheered, by the assurance of some highly intelligent and benevolent individuals, that Number One has been productive of good. I wrote it for that end, and sent it forth into the world, with a prayer to that effect.
