8 “Academics were very important to me when I was choosing a college. Honestly, I wasn’t sure that a Christian college would be as rigorous as the state schools I was looking at. One visit, one look around campus, and I found out Cedarville is definitely challenging. There’s a strong academic reputation here. I started at Cedarville as an undeclared major. A lot of people helped me work through that decision, and at the end of my freshman year, I chose technical and professional communication. It’s a great program! The faculty get involved with your life academically, spiritually, and socially. Already I’ve had two internships–– one with Chevron/Texaco writing articles for their internal Web site and the other with Stanford University’s newspaper as a science and general assignments writer. I’m actually the third Strickland to come to Cedarville. Even though my older “sibs” were students, I wanted to have my own start, and Cedarville made it remarkably easy to meet people and make friends. For me, the One Voice gospel choir, the P.E.A.C.E. Project, and the • 3,100 Christian students from 48 states and 13 countries • Hundreds of ways to get involved: social and service organizations, student government, intramural sports, music ensembles, ministry teams, and more • Recreation Center featuring a 40-foot climbing wall, fitness and weight training equipment, racquetball courts, basketball and volleyball courts, and much more • Leadership opportunities and practical training through The Leadership Institute • Residence life program that serves 80% of students and fosters lifelong friendships and unforgettable college memories Friends for Life Phi Epsilon Beta women’s organization were great ways to meet people, get involved in ministry, grow spiritually, and make my college experience personal and meaningful. Some of my best college memories have been the spontaneous crazy times with friends— trying out a new exercise video and laughing through most of it or writing a script and heading out with a video camera to film our own goofy movies.
