Toni and Terri Van Beveren were the first twins to receive the Presidents Trophy; Dan Hale, the male student awardee, was chosen for his leadership, sportsmanship, Christian character, and grade point average. Three students were commissioned into the U.S. Armed Forces. Lt. Col.James B. Parham of the U.S. Army led the commissioning for Ray Washburn. U.S. Air Force Capt. Richard G. Docker, Jr., commissioned Randy Amos and Deborah Borleis while thier parents assisted. President Dixon ended the granting of degrees by stating,".. I hereby confer upon you the appropriate bachelor degrees with the rights and privileges thereto. To God be the glory." Melissa Felt conveyed the feelings of all of the graduates upon that first glance at their diplomas with an enthusiastic yelp.
