This year, 14 students comprised the team that finished second in the state of Ohio. Members of the team earned 2 novice and 4 varsity state championships; the best record in Cedarvillheistory. Novice state champion in the Extemporaneous and Impromptu categories was Jeff Joiner. The state varsity winner in After-Dinner speaking was Gary Clemmer and in Prose, Poetry, and Dramatic Duo, it was Donna Payne. Jeff Joiner was Donna's duo partner. The team is coached by Dr. David Robey who is in his 8th year at Cedarville. This year Dr. Robey completed his doctoral work in Organizational Development and Organizational Communication. While many may think of forensics as a performance of literature, Dr. Robey stresses, "Public speaking skills developed through forensics training are very valuable for those who wish to have careers in business, education, or the ministry. Christians need to be good communicators in every arena of life." Dr. Robey believes that the forensics program demonstrates the mission of the college. "We want to field a team that consistently demonstrates what the college stands for: a commitment to Biblical truth, social consciousness, and personal development." ORGANIZATIONS 121
