1993 Miracle Yearbook

It was another championship season for the Cedanrille College men's tennis team. The Yellow Jacketsclaimed their fifth straightNAIA District22titleand23rdoverallin Murray Murdoch's28 yearsas head coach. The netters wenton to tie for 20th place out of 47 schools at the NAIA Nationals in Kansas City. Cedarville hasa21-1 record with thelonesetbacka6-3loss at Wittenberg. It wasthe Jackets'first defeat at the hands of theTigersin seven years. Murdoch pushed his career record to 551-67,a.892 winning percentage. Newcomer and number one player Sino Rasberger,a nativeofCroatia,won19of20singlesmatchesduringtheseason to pace the team. Hislonelosscamein the third round ofthe national tournament. Rasberger breezed to the District 22 singles title and was ranked as high as 35th nationally in NAIA singles. His name topped the All-NAIA District 22 team. Matt Kibble closed out his career after advancing to the secondroundtothenationaltournament.HewastheDistrict 22singlesrunner-up after defeating thedefendingchampion in the semifinals. Kibble and Rasberger were rated 20th in NAIA doubles and they advanced to the third round at Kansas City before finishing the spring with a 10-3 record. Seniors Mike Anthony and Mike Baker finished their senior yearswith identical14-3marks,plusthetwosomejoined Rasbergerand Kibbleon the all-district unit. Anthony had a career record of59-14 while Baker was56-13. They also had a94doubles record during the year. Freshman Jamie Hand had a good experience in his first trip to K.C. with a singles win plus a doubles victory with partner Jeff Blackburn. Hand was51-3 in singles and made the all-districtteam,while heand Blackburn wonfour offive doubles matches. JuniorCoryGrovewastheothersinglesplayertotake part in the districtand nationaltournaments. Hehad a6-2record to up his career mark to 16-3. The Yellow Jackets continued their domination of regular season opponents by posting 13 shutouts in dual match competition. That list included wins over Malone,Wright State,and Northern Kentucky.
