Influencing Others with His Love Drs.Monroe Allen and Beverly Monroe have been a part ofthe Cedarville College scene for almost three decades. Dr.Allen Monroe joined the faculty in the DepartmentofSocialSciences andHistoryinJanuaryof1966. His broad background in the social sciences enabled him to developthewell-knowncourse Foundations ofSocial Science which hasbecomeadistinctive elementin the college culture. He also teaches courses in geography and political science and is knownfor his emphasis on Christian Theism. His formerstudentandpresentcolleague,Dr.Kevin Sims, states this about him, "As a freshman, I viewed 'Uncle Al' as someone to be reverentially feared; as an upperclassman, however,I gained a better appreciation ofthe man. He was still the task-master, the one whodemanded excellenceand stressed academic rigor in the classroom; yet,he wasthe one who cultivated in me the ability, as well as the desire, to learn." Dr."Mrs."BeverlyMonroe, as she is affectionately called, spentseveral years teachinign the public school system before coming to the Education Departmentin 1977. Herareas ofexpertise include children's literature and several elementary education methods fields: this expertise has led her to minister effectively in several foreign missionschoolsaswell. The chair of the Education Department,Dr.Merlin Ager, describes her as professional, organized, hardworking, energetic, and demanding of her students. Hefurther says,"Although she is talented and experienced in many areas, children's literature is clearly herfirst love. WhenIthink of her in the classroom,I see her dressed in a 'Mother Goose' costume demonstrating story telling and communicating her excitement for the world of books to her students. Her office has the appearance of the children's books section of a locallibrary.Infact, hergrandchildren, Ryan, Allison, and Caitlyn, call her "Grandmabooks." The Monroeshavetravelled extensively throughout the world. Their rich cultural experiences have contributed greatly to the intellectual development of their students. Maytheycontinueto beChristian role models in balancing academic, cultural and spiritual excellence to all their future students as they have in the last thirty-plus years. Murray J. Intramural Stress Relievers Exams. Papers. Projects. Meetings. How can students keep their sanity when they are up to their heads with responsibilitiesthatwillaffecttheirfutures? Easy answer. Play on an intramural sports team. Intramural sports are designed to give students a competitive and fun activity, yet it does not require the many long hours of practice that an intercollegiate team expects. Whether a student plays soccer, basketball, floor hockey,or softball, therewardsare great, agoodtime of relaxing fun while spending time with friends. MaPrintyisrememberedandrespectedfor much morethanjustherfunloving side. She was a hero ofthe faith who made a strong stand for the Lord."WhenIthinkofher,Ithinkofagodlyladywith class, someonewho really enjoyed life and loved people. She obviouslyloved the Lord and was faithful in her prayer life," said Don Rickard, vice president ofstudent services. MaPrintywasin touch with thestudents, and everyoneknewtheycould cometo herfor advice. She wasalways willing to talk, which she did while shaking her long pointer finger. Many of this generation of students do not know about the woman behind Printy Hall. Sheloved Cedarville with all her heartand put all she had into the lives ofthose who came in contact with her. It is averyspecial personindeed whocan affectthe livesofso many, even after her death. She leaves behind her a challenge to put Christand others first, to never let yourfaith grow stale, and to never slack offin yourservice to others. airEaranWszorkik‘a WilliegaleaPralle," OMMEOW Sophomore Breakfast Sophomores are important to Cedarville College, and the administration has determined to prove it. Several days have been set aside during the year for the sophomores to meet with Dr. Dixon in the President's Dining Room for a 7:00 a.m. breakfast. Each sophomore is encouraged to attend one of them. Dr. Dixon feels thatsophomores are often overlooked becausetheyarein the middle of the college experience, and he is determined notto let this be the case. TheCelebration Breakfastsareformal occasions. Not only does the President attend but also representativesfrom various studentservices on campus. They are invited to make sure thatthestudentsare awareofthe assistance that has been made available to them. Eventhough7:00a.m.isveryearly, studentsfindthatattendingthebreakfast is well worth it. Brenda Kregel Lowell Herschberger, Doug Amundson, and Joshua Bell enjoy an early sophomore breakfast. HeidiSorensen and Heather Bethel are veryperkyin the morning even for a sophomore breakfast.
