Getting Started feels a lot like summer camp, only more awkward if that is even possible. But unlike summer camp, you are helping new students fit into the place that will be their home for the next four years, and more likely they will do the same for others in years to come." —Joel Wasserstein, Sophomore Getting Started Leader GETTING STARTED As the summer came to a close, the Getting Started Crew eagerly awaited the arrival of the new students. RAswerescrambling tofinish up any last minutetouches in their units, hoping they didn't forget anything. Junior RA Nate Hills simply smiled when asked if he was ready for the new year. For many upperclassmen, it was just a normal day, but to incoming students, it was the start of something brand new. As the weekend continued, new students and transfer students met with their small groups. Getting Started leaders not only described life at Cedarville to the new students, jokingly warning them not to use trays in Chuck's, but they also explained the seriousness of setting aside time with God every day. While the new students were settling in, returning students began to arrive as well. They were able to join in the activities of the weekend, such as the SGA worship night and New Student Welcome Party. Overall, students enjoyed time to reconnect with friends, learn more about themselves, and grow in Christ. 1. Roommates Molly Heiden and Tori Switzer move into Willets with their parents' help. 2. Our problem is not with our lack of ability, but rather our lack of love for who God is." —Rob Turner Pastor at Apex Community Church o 7#.• FALL BIBLE CONFERENCE At the beginning of every year, even before classes begin, students gather together in the chapel for the Fall Bible Conference. This year, students had the privilege of hearing Pastor Rob Turner, a leader of Apex Community Church in both Xenia and Kettering. Students laughed along with Rob Turner as he told funny stories about his life. His energy and passion for God were evident, and freshmen and seniors alike were able to relate to his messages. Turner reminded students that they should never become numb to the expansion of God's fame because God is worthy to be praised in any circumstance. Patrick Anderson and the other musicians led the students in worship for this year's conference. Thousands of students lifted their voices and filled the chapel with sounds of praise. New students were awed by the chance to worship with so many other believers, and returning students were glad to be back with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. For many, the opportunity to worship in song and in prayer encouraged a healing of heart and a renewal of mind. ,fAr ....01. Rob Turner challenges students to act on what they hear. 2. HOMECOMING Homecoming weekend is always a great time for both students and alumni. On Friday afternoon, engineering students climbed into their hand-crafted cardboard canoes and raced across the lake. Students and visitors gathered around to watch the race and cheer on their friends. Some even hoped that the canoes would capsize so they could watch the engineering students sink into the murky waters of Cedar Lake. The engineering students hoped otherwise. As freshman Brendan McGillick patiently waited for his group to go, he said, "It better float." Unfortunately for his team, not all boats reach shore. On Saturday morning,Homecoming continued as students, children, and alumni lined the streets of Cedarville, eager to watch the parade and take part in the annual celebration, which continued with CU by the Lake. Many orgs set up tables around the lake and sold products for their fundraisers. Other homecoming activities continued throughout the night where over 600 alumni reconnected with their beloved campus. 1. I was really excited to see the pirate ship win the canoe race because that was my roommate's boat! I thought it was fun watching the guys sink because I kayak, so I knew what they were doing wrong." —Alex MacPhail-Fausey Sophomore Student Two waterlogged freshmen run up the hill in front of the ENS to the finish line of the cardboard canoe race. 2.As alumni return for Homecoming weekend, their children come too, gathering around Cedar Lake to watch the races. 3. "Tengo famiglia," was a phrase often heard in Cedarville's Fall theatre production of Over the River and Through the Woods. The play was written by Joe DiPietro, who was born and raised in New Jersey. The play was first produced in April 1994 and has since been presented in several theaters across America. Dipietro's comedy is not only witty and entertaining, but it also teaches the audience about Italian culture and the importance of family. The audience enjoyed watching the interaction between the main character, Nick Cristano, and his grandparents. Although the audience may not have known about Italian culture beforehand, they could still relate to the difficultiesthefamily experienced. Students identified with Nick Cristano's desire to begin a new life on his own, even if that meant leaving hisfamily. Likewise, grandparents and parents related to Nick's grandparents and how difficult it is to say goodbye to family members. This play tells the story of one family, but it also reminds us of our own relatives and family stories, and that's what I think makes this play, and the experience,so special." —Heather Barker Senior Theatre Major 1. God has really shown me what true fellowship with other believers looks like this semester. Were in this community to be accountable and to love our brothers and sisters in Christ." —Jordan Luce Sophomore Student FALL EVENTS The end of summer isn't usually something the average person looks forward to. For Cedarville students, that is entirely untrue. The end of summer means the beginning of fall semester and the chance to reconnect with friends. This fall, students enjoyed numerous events hosted by SCAB,attending ALT nights to watch movies like The Hunger Gamesand The Amazing Spiderman. Likewise, the New Student Talent Show gave students a chance to get to know each other and show off their skills. Although the fall semester offered many activities for students to participate in, it also gave them a chance to serve within the community. The Involvement Fair helped students find a way to get connected in ministries and orgs on campus. Many students also helped out with the annual Junior Jam event, giving up their time to hang out with young kids and showing them what Christianity is really about. 1. During your four years here th at Cedarville University you would have heard at aPpro ximately 596 times (assuming your chapel attendance was stellar). Yes,your alma mater planned, r,ranized, and presented approximately 596 cha- :els from the first day of Fall Bible Conference in your ireshrtian Year until the last chapel of your senior year th e theme for this past year's chapels was "Living e Christ- centered Life." Dr. Brown, in some way or :Other'dealt with that most every Monday. You would ave heard him approximately 25 times this past year alone. Christian Figueredo, last year's SGA Chaplain, spoke approximately 18 times. Each chapel speaker, having been invited to speak, was informed of the emphasis for the chapel year, though not required to specifically handle the subject. I found it exciting to see how many chapels rang the bell last year(and the chapels I'm referring to would vary depending on each person's situation at the time). Chapel is core to Cedarville University. For a long time we have held chapel five days a week and required attendance for all fulltime undergraduate students. We don't plan on changing this. When students and graduates are asked what they don't want to see change at Cedarville their responses include that we should not change chapel. It is our prayer that your experience in chapel during your years here at CU will be an encouragement for years to come! Please come join us in chapel at 10:00 AM Monday through Friday if you are in the Cedarville area. You are always welcome! Coram Deo, Pastor Rohm

He challenged students to live a life in the Kingdom characterized by power and awe of God Almighty. Casey Murphy, Sophomore Class Chaplain Casey Murphy spoke on contentment and holiness during the sophomore class chapels. He spoke on contentment during the first semester because of the relevance to his life. He wanted students to realize how often everyone complains about the simple things in life. During the second semester, Murphy spoke on holiness because he wanted to remind students how many people in this generation have neglected this important aspect of the Christian faith. T.J. Pancake, Junior Class Chaplain This year in chapel,T.J. Pancake lifted up the glory of what Christ did for sinners. hopes of stirring the affections of the students for Jesus. Darin the second semester, Pancake taught out of Ephesians 2. He explain how Jesus loved the outsiders and the lowly, and how Christians can show Chris love to others in the same way. Stephen Clark, Freshmen Class Chaplain Asfreshman class chaplain, Stephen Clark found it challenging to find sometill0 new for Cedarville students to hear that would also still apply to the fresfS class. However, Clark realized that the things he was learning as a new stadeill applied to everyone of the Christian faith: how to have joy in all circumstances ari the importance of loving God. Clark's main focus throughout the chapels Was fC'r students to find joy through fulfilling their purpose of loving the Lord with all Wel heart, soul, and mind. "0 Ran loo inte SG ans
