In 1949 the school gained collegiate re­ cognition changing its name to the Baptist Bible Institute. It was not until 1973 that the school e- volved into Grand Rapids Baptist College with a full Liberal Arts program offered to students. In 1976 the school was ac­ credited . Dr. Charles Wagner has served as presi­ dent for one year. He replaced Dr. W. Wil­ bert Welch who had faithfully served since 1963 as the president.
