1984 NCCAA National Soccer Tournament

An horrendous start of 2 -6-1 had a traditionally proud Cedarville team ree ling with the prospects of only their 6th losing sea son in 22 years. But, un der experienced Head Coach John McGillivray's direct ion the Yellowjackets re bounded to win 6 of 7 in cluding their third NCCAA District championship. Now they will enter the tourn ament with a 10-7-1 mark. "It was very frustrating in the first half of the year not playing up to our potential, we decided to return to the basics" ex plained McGillivray. Cedarville entered Regi onal play as the 2nd seed in the strong Mideast be hind Grace College and a- head of Marion College. It did not take the Yellowja ckets long to dispose of Marion College 10-3. Juni or Noel Hack led the way with a team high 5 assists while striker Tom Fite ma naged a hat-trick to give him 16 goals for the year. Senior Wayne Anderson add ed 2 goals in the triumph. From here the Yellowjac kets traveled to face fa vored Grace College. "It's exciting to go there and win. It appears as if we are starting to gel’,' said McGillivray beaming. It was all Noel Hack as he scored both goals in a space of 1:30. At 24:00 Hack got behind the Grace defense beating the keeper with a shot at the 18 yard line. His se cond goal, at 25:30, came when he tapped home a ball that was loose in front of the Grace goalmouth, his 12th goal of the year. Defensively the key will be the ability of sweeper Curt Critcher and stopper Greg Norden to control the middle of the field. Coach McGillivray has played two goalies all season and both have performed com- mendably. Freshman Dan By rum has pushed senior Jan Schaedel, who now appears to have gained the edge on the virtue of his perfor mance against Grace. McGillivray finished by expressing "...we are just happy to make it this far and hope to represent the school well here." ****************************************************************************************** W/G NAME P‘0S HT WT CLASS MAJOR HOMETOWN T T i Byrum, Dan G 5’11" 160 Fr Pre-Seminary Columbus, Oh 1/ i Schaedel, Jan G 6' 1" 185 Sr Business Administration Mattituck, NY 2/ 2 Anderson, Wayne S 5’11" 150 Sr Business Administration Hamburg, NY 3/ 3 Seidel, Rick S 6' 0" 155 So Undeclared Springfield, Va 4/ 4 Abel, Chuck FB 5'11" 160 Sr Business Administration Covington, Ky 5/ 5 Hawk, Dan HB 5' 7" 160 Jr Undeclared Madrid, Spain 6/ 6 Reid, Jon FB 6 ’ 0" 175 Jr Undeclared Romeo, Mi 7/ 7 Critcher, Curt FB 5 ’ 9" 165 Sr Physical Education Wickliffe, Oh 8/ 8 Hultz, Brian HB 5'n" 150 Fr Physical Education Pottstown, Pa 9/ 9 Fogle, Phil HB 5 ’ 8" 150 So Math Springfield, Va 10/10 Custodio, Troy S 5'10" 165 So Physical Education Jennings Bay, Bermi 11/11 Fite, Tom S 5’ 9" 150 Jr Accounting Milford, Oh 12/12 Ziegler, Brent HB 5 ’11" 155 So Pre-Agriculture Wellington, Oh 13/13 Fleetwood, Mark HB 5'11" 165 Jr Political Science Indianapolis, In 15/15 Hack, Noel S 5*11" 155 Jr Pre-Seminary Lagrange, Oh 16/16 Norden, Greg HB 5* 10" 160 So Undeclared Arcadia, Oh 17/17 Moody, Dave FB 5'11" 155 Sr Business Administration Georgetown, SC IO / 1 9 1ininger, Andy HB 5' 6" 120 Fr Undeclared Springfield, Va 18 Davis, Tim FB 5' 9" 150 So Business Administration Haddon Heights, NJ 22/14 Baker, Jeff HB 5'11" 155 Fr Undeclared Quincy,11 Head Coach: John McGillivray ******************************************************************************************** 1
