LeTourneau Steve Beacham Non-denominational 1946 In 1946, famous Christian industria­ list R.G. LeTourneau and his wife were flying over the area looking for a new manufacturing site when "Mom” LeTour­ neau spotted a vacated, sprawling army hospital. Over 200 frame buildings occupied the 162-acre tract of land that became LeTourneau Technical Institute in 1946. In 1961 LeTourneau shed junior college status and became a 4-year, coeducati­ onal, 4-year, technical and liberal arts college. Even today LeTourneau continues as a leader in the technical fields placing graduates all over the world. 18
