2005 Tournament Recap ccAA NATIONAL t ~ - CHAMPIONSHIP 2005 NOVEMBER 3-5, 2005 - ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA They entered the 2005 National Christian College Ath– letic Association (NCCAA) division one volleyball national tournament as the top seed, and they left the tournament with the top seed, claiming the national championship title in convincing style. Cedarville University (Ohio) swept Bethel College (Ind.) in the championship showdown with game scores reading 30-23, 30-26, and 30-25 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. Cedarville finished the tournament with a phenomenal 40-2 overall record on the year, while the Bethel College Pilots claimed a 35-6 season showing after tournament play was completed. The NCCAA volley– ball national title is the first for the Yellow Jacket program. For Cedarville University, senior setter Kelsey Jones (Cedarville, Ohio/Cedarville High School) was simply spectacular once again in the championship match, collecting 2005 NCCAA tournament most valuable player honors. Against Bethel , Jones finished with 52 assists, averaging 17.3 assists per game in the match. Fellow all-tournament performer in junior Julia Bradley (Valencia, Calif/Saugus High School) boasted a match-high 17 kills, joined in double-figures for kills by sophomore Sarah Zeltman (Orriville, Ohio/Kidron Central Christian High School) with 14 and freshman Cari Greetham 18 CCAA NATIONAL VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP (Wellington, Ohio/Wellington High Schoo) with 11. As a team, the Yellow Jackets were successful on 59 of their 133 attack attempts, owning just 12 errors to produce a .353 team attack percentage. Bethel College was paced by senior Deanne Gonzalez (LaPorte, Ind.) in the championship match, who put down 14 kills, also adding 16 digs and 5 total blocks. The all-tournament performer was named the 2005 NCCAA division one volleyball national player of the year. Joining her in double-figures for kills was all-tournament honoree Cassie Koldyke (South Bend, Ind.) and sophomore Terrin Meister (Bourbon, Ind.) Koldyke tallied 10 kills and 21 digs, finishing the tournament ranked in the top ten statistically for kills, serving aces, and digs. Meister recorded 10 kills, 6 digs, and 5 total blocks. Cedarville University Yellow Jackets took a large step for– ward towards securing the 2005 NCCAA volleyball national cha.mpionship by first knocking off the defending national champions in Palm Beach Atlantic University (Fla.) in the semi-finals. The match featured three close games, but Cedarville owned the upper hand in each game with scores reading 30-27, 30-26, and 30-27. With the loss, the Sailfish from Palm Beach Atlantic completed NCCAA tournament action owning a 28-10 record for the season. Bethel College needed five games to do so, but the Pilots prevailed in a marathon match victory over Trinity Inter– national University (Ill.) in the other semi-final match of the 2005 National Christian College Athletic Association volleyball national tournament. With the loss, the Trojans' impressive NCCAA post-season run came to an end as they came out on the short end of scores reading 30- 18, 19-30, 30-19, 22-30, and 15-6. Trinity International finished the event claiming a 26-13 overall record for the season.
