About Northwestern College Founded in 1902, orthwestern College is a nondenominational Christian college that integrates the educational philosophy of "faith, learning and living" through two focuses: higher education and media. The higher education focus offers a vast arra of opportunities within a strong academic program. orthwestern offers 50 bachelor degrees ranging from elementary education and pastoral studies to broadcasting/electronic media and psychology. The core component is the trad it ional day– school program, wh ich enrolls over 1,700. Alternative education programs, serving over 900 students, include FOCUS degree com– pletion, Center for Distance Education, Urban Bible Institute, and the Christian Center for Communications in Qu ito, Ecuador. Northwestern's 15,000-plus alumni positively impact society through careers in law, education , medicine, government, computertechnologyand Fortune 500 businesses, as well as in missions, churches and parachurch organizations. The media focus began in 1949 when Twin Cities' radio station KTIS went on the air thanks to $44,000 generated by students.Northwestern President William F. "Billy" Graham gave the first on-air prayer. Today, Northwestern owns and operates 15 noncommercial listener-supported Christian radio stations in Minnesota, North and South Dakota; Iowa, Wisconsin and Florida with a combined audience of half a million listeners a week. The Skylight and Skyll satellite networks sell Christian programming to 300 Christian radio stations around the country. LifeNet.FM is a contemporary Christian music station on the Internet. Northwestern's media ministry reaches beyond the United States through financial and technological partnerships with Christian radio stations in Kenya, Uganda, Belize, Ecuador and Mongolia. 4 CCAA ATIONAL VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Northwestern 's campus encompasses 107 acres, 12 build ings and outstanding academic and athletic facilities. Northwestern competes in football , men's and women's soccer, men's and women 's cross country, golf, volleyball, men's and women 's basketball, men's and women 's track and field, baseball, softball and men 's and women's tennis. Northwestern is affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division Ill, the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I, and the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Northwestern is an independent nonprofit enterprise that takes a Biblically Christian ethical and moral position and is theologically conservative in doctrine. Northwestern Locale Located in Roseville and Arden Hills, MN, Northwestern College rests in the heart of the northern Sa int Paul suburbs. The area is an interesting example of modern urban development coexisting with the rugged beauty of the rural North Country. The more than 2.64 million people living in the Twin Cities metropolitan area have access to over 250 parks and enjoy the beauty and recreational features of 936 lakes. The area enjoys a healthy econom ic cl imate as major industries such as General Mills, 3M Honeywell, Land O'Lakes, Medtron ic, Cargill, Best Buy, Target, Carlson Companies, and Northwest Airlines all call the Metro area home. Cultural attractions include the Minnesota Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Opera Company, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Guthrie Theatre, and numerous historic sites and museums. Saint Paul and Minneapolis provide excellent shopping opportunities, including the famous Mall of America. The two downtown areas are only 15 minutes from the campus. An abundance of recreational opportunities in the area are available year-round . Situated on the shores of Lake Johanna, the campus itself offers ice skating, ice fishing, sledding, and cross-country skii ng in the winter. A few downhill ski areas are within an hour from the campus. The summer months bring swimming, water- skiing, canoeing, sailing and fish ing. Publ ic beaches abound, along with fine parks, bicycle and roller blad ing trails, golf courses, and tennis courts Sports fans find the Twin Cities a desirable place as the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Minnesota Wil d all compete in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul. area. The Sa int Paul Saints offer minor league baseball action and the Minnesota Thunder provide professional soccer entertainment.
