HISTORY In eptember of 1941, Bible - b lieving Bapti t pastors were gath red for the e sion of a Bible onference at the Calvary Bapti t 'hurch, We t 25th and Library Streets, Cleveland. During a di cu sion period. Pastor DaYid E. Luttrell and William S . Ross, both having be n preYiou ly impre ed with th need, set forth the idea of a Bible In titute for th e Cl ,·e land area. The other pastors present were im– mediately in accord and a II agreed to put forth effort for the establish– ment of such an institution. By July, 1942 , a course of study for the fir t year wa adopted and officers were elected. The school was offered the u e of the :Edu– cational Building of th e Hough AYenue Baptist Church for class room<,. and on September 15 , 1942, the Baptist Bible Institute opened itf-> doors to Clevelanders. Two hundred seventy- four enrolled for the first term. Spiritual , scholarly, true-to-the-Bible pa tors gave free ly of the"ir time to sene the School. Due to war conditions, long working hours and the general con– fusion of the times, the fir t four years of the Institute's life were fraught with difficulti es. Yet God graciously gave bless ing and victory. On June 4, 1946 , nine plendid young people received diplomas, ha\' – ing satisfactorily completed the four years of required work in the Evening School. Hy the end of 19·18 O\'er 900 students recei ,·ed credit for units of completed work . On August 1, 1945, Re,·. Kenneth A. Amsler was called lo se n ·e as full-time Dean and Directo r of Promotion. Under hi s able leader– ship , the Institute moved forward under the manife t ble si ng of God . The curri culum was strengthened, the faculty increased numer ically and scholastically , th e constitution revised , a new Hoard of Director~ elected and a Board of Reference appointed. The spiritual. and scholastic standards were ra ised and the entire ministry of the School extended . The personal witness, gospel team ministry', senices and conferences conduct ed by both students and faculty have been a great blessing to many and ha,·e resulted in the salvation an<l edification of many souls. The Baptist Bibl e Institute of Cle,·eland was inl'orporatcd in .January , 1946, under the laws of the State of Ohio . In Septembn of that same year the Directors took another step of faith in inaup:u– rating the Day School. Twenty-eight students were enrolled in the first Day School elass. In August , 1946. the Institute was appro,·ed by the Ohio Statt· D epartment of Education for the training of \'eterans under Publil' Law S46. Later the Institute was also appro\'ed for the training of ,·eterans under Public Law 16. Full subsistence is granted to ,·eteram who are enroll ed under this training program.
