W. Renwick McChesney (1871-1944), Professor of Theology and President of Cedarville College 1894-1940 Dr. McChesney became the first faculty member at Cedarville College when its doors were officially opened for classes in the fall of 1894. During those early years, he also served Cedarville as Secretary of the Faculty, Vice President, and Dean. In 1915, upon the retirement of Dr. David McKinney, Dr. McChesney was named the second president of Cedarville College, serving for 25 years until 1940. He led the College through the difficult days of World War I and the Great Depression. In addition to his ministry at Cedarville College, he briefly served as the interim pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Cedarville (1903-1904, 1906-1908) and also served for five terms in the Ohio legislature from the 1930’s until his death in 1944.
