PHARMACY EXCELLENCE REDEFINED Over the years, pharmacists, healthcare’s “medication experts,” have often been among the leading innovators in healthcare. In today’s rapidly changing healthcare landscape, we again see pharmacists taking on new, strategic roles to improve the health of their patients. While many still oversee preparing and dispensing of medications, others now work side by side with physicians, applying their medical knowledge to promote optimal health outcomes. Others meet regularly with those suffering from chronic illnesses, assessing the safety and effectiveness of the treatment plan and recommending alternatives as well as dietary or lifestyle changes to improve health. Another group collaborates with genetic scientists to develop strategies to improve drug effectiveness by using our growing understanding of the human genome. And still others positively influence public health, analyzing statistics and policies to ensure that healthcare dollars are invested in the most effective way. At Cedarville, we will equip you to serve in any of these roles. We’ll also challenge you to envision newways to serve those in need! We will provide you with a distinct pharmacy education, one that is Christ-centered, patient-focused, and future-oriented. Make plans today to visit our school! We would love to meet you and have you see what God is doing here. We welcome the opportunity to help you explore how you can become a part of our exciting program! CHRIST-CENTERED Imagine a pharmacy school where: Your classmates share your faith in Christ and actively encourage your daily walk with Him. Your professors open each class with prayer, integrate scriptural truth into the classes they teach, and model Christ in their daily lives. You may attend a vibrant chapel service each day, featuring exuberant worship and some of the nation’s best Bible teachers. You can enjoy small-group Bible studies to dig deeply into God’s Word, experience genuine Christian fellowship, and receive emotional support when times are tough. You have countless opportunities to serve those in need, addressing their health challenges and also pointing them to Christ. You’ll graduate from Cedarville University not just as an exceptional pharmacist but as a believer stronger in your faith, equipped to make an impact for Christ in the lives of others and in your profession.
PATIENT-FOCUSED Approximately a third of your curriculum is designed to give you experiences outside the classroomwhere you will engage with patients and learn how to serve themwith Christlike compassion. Each of your pharmacy practice faculty members is actively involved in some aspect of pharmacy practice and brings insights from their current experiences to enrich your classroom discussions. You will also spend several hours eachweek in a pharmacy practice setting, observing and learning from your preceptor. Year 1 – Your first year of pharmacy school will involve a community pharmacy focus, giving you a “behind the counter” view of the important role that a pharmacist fills in his or her community. Year 2 – Your second year will focus on institutional pharmacy, enabling you to work under pharmacists in hospitals or clinics, opening your eyes to the direct and indirect patient care opportunities in those facilities. Year 3 – Your third year will expand your patient understanding to include the “underserved,” patients outside of traditional healthcare whom you will serve in charitable pharmacies, free clinics, and community centers. Year 4 – Your patient-care focus will culminate with a series of nine monthlong rotations in community, healthcare systems, and specialty settings, enabling you to apply and refine the information and skills you have gained over the previous three years of instruction. Additionally, you’ll be able to volunteer for a variety of other opportunities to enhance your patient service skills. Our active student organizations regularly sponsor service events.
Our students have completed clinical rotations with nationally recognized healthcare providers:

I wanted to attend a pharmacy school with a Christian curriculum to understand how to represent Christ well as a pharmacist. One of the highlights of my academic journey was taking a Bible course over the summer, which helped me understand how my profession fits into God’s plan for mankind. I cherish my training here at Cedarville because I believe it is developing me into a skilled healthcare professional and a better ambassador for Christ. — ARRAH ATEM-TAMBE PharmD ’21 RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES Research fuels advances in the pharmacy profession. Consequently, even though most of our graduates will not pursue roles as full-time researchers, we believe that involvement in research enriches our students and equips them to excel as healthcare professionals. Through the course Research Design andMethodology, one of your first courses in the doctoral curriculum, you will be assigned to work with a faculty member and three classmates to conduct a three-year research project. In addition to learning how to read and evaluate scientific literature, applying research methods, and developing critical thinking skills, you will learn to work as a teamwhile being mentored by your lead faculty researcher. You will also have the opportunity to present your research in the School at the annual research symposium, at professional conferences through poster presentations, and, if selected, in peerreviewed professional journals. These experiences have enabled many of our graduates to obtain highly regarded residencies and research fellowships across the nation. The School’s research efforts have been recognized regionally and nationally, including student awards, top finishes in student research competitions, and faculty awards, for their publications and scholarly activity. Some students work as paid research assistants in the School of Pharmacy. These research assistant positions include assisting our professors who have research grants or working for the Center for Pharmacy Innovation. All of these efforts are focused on discovering new disease-fighting therapies, improving patient care, or advancing the profession of pharmacy. Research topics have included: Opioid Pilot Project from the National Association of County and City Health Officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (NACCHO/CDC Opioid Pilot Project) An observational study to compare the effectiveness of implementing a motivational interviewing-based decision tool on childhood vaccination rates Use of protein-based molecules including monoclonal antibodies aimed at promoting a balanced approach to blood vessel survival in patients with vascular impairments A simulated patient experience to improve pharmacy student empathy for patients on hemodialysis The antiproliferative and apoptotic effects of apigenin on glioblastoma cells Luteolin decreases epidermal growth factor receptor-mediated cell proliferation and induces apoptosis in glioblastoma cell lines

FUTURE-ORIENTED The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that healthcare occupations will addmore jobs through 2028 “than any of the other occupational groups” (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, September 4, 2019). Fueled by an aging population and increased demand for healthcare, future opportunities for pharmacists abound. However, instead of serving primarily in a dispensing role, pharmacists now serve patients directly: Accompanying physicians on their daily hospital rounds Working as vital members of the healthcare team in emergency departments Counseling patients regarding fitness and diet as well as their medications What will healthcare look like in the future? Only God knows. However, we intend to influence the future of pharmacy practice and the medications of tomorrow. Our Center for Pharmacy Innovation leads this initiative by bringing guest presenters to the School and sponsoring research projects for faculty and students. Additionally, our faculty actively forge relationships with some of the leading innovators in pharmacy practice and the pharmaceutical industry, leading to field trips, internships, grants, and collaborative initiatives. One immediate benefit of this approach has been the extremely high employment rate for our graduates seeking pharmacy positions.
