PHARMACY EXCELLENCE REDEFINED Over the years, pharmacists, healthcare’s “medication experts,” have often been among the leading innovators in healthcare. In today’s rapidly changing healthcare landscape, we again see pharmacists taking on new, strategic roles to improve the health of their patients. While many still oversee preparing and dispensing of medications, others now work side by side with physicians, applying their medical knowledge to promote optimal health outcomes. Others meet regularly with those suffering from chronic illnesses, assessing the safety and effectiveness of the treatment plan and recommending alternatives as well as dietary or lifestyle changes to improve health. Another group collaborates with genetic scientists to develop strategies to improve drug effectiveness by using our growing understanding of the human genome. And still others positively influence public health, analyzing statistics and policies to ensure that healthcare dollars are invested in the most effective way.
