CAROLYN CARLSON Carolyn Carlson, Distinguished Professor Emerita of Nursing, passed away April 3, 2024. She served at Cedarville from 1988 to 2007. She gave up a prominent research and teaching position at a large university in Chicago to come to Cedarville, and she never regretted it. She was passionate about modeling how to use nursing as a ministry for Christ, leading the nursing program’s short-termmissions trip to Togo for 10 years. She earned her PhD from the University of Colorado. TIMOTHY HEATON Timothy Heaton, Professor Emeritus of Education, passed away March 15, 2024. He taught at Cedarville for 33 years, from 1987 to 2020, and was passionate about equipping future teachers. He also spoke internationally as an ambassador for the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), spanning five continents across the globe. He was honored as Faculty Member of the Year in 1990. He earned his PhD from the University of Dayton. JUNE KEARNEY June Kearney, former coach at Cedarville, passed away October 29, 2023. She served at Cedarville University for 20 years, coaching all women’s sports while the athletic program was being built. She was instrumental in developing the first women’s intercollegiate athletic program, earning her a spot in Cedarville’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Her influence on women’s athletics at Cedarville is still felt today. While at Cedarville, she completed her master's degree in counseling fromWittenberg University and her PhD from The Ohio State University. EDWARD SPENCER Edward Spencer, former language and literature professor, passed away March 25, 2024, at the age of 98. He served at Cedarville University for 47 years, retiring in 2008. The Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Spencer Endowed Scholarship was established by Brian and Suzanne Marburger in 2017 and is awarded annually to deserving students from the School of Education or Department of English, Literature, and Modern Languages.
