Cedarville Magazine Spring 2025

CALLANHONOREDFOR65YEARSAT ATHLETES FORCHRISTREUNION On December 14, 2024, Dr. Don Callan was recognized for his 65 years of service to Cedarville University during an Athletes for Christ reunion. He was honored with a reception between games of the Yellow Jackets’ basketball doubleheader vs. G-MAC foe Northwood University and on the court at halftime of the men’s contest. Callan, who came to Cedarville College in 1960, served in multiple roles, including dean, athletic director, department chair, and head coach of various sports, especially basketball. Both Dr. Callan and his late wife, Nedra, devoted their lives to worldwide sports evangelism. Callan was co-founder of the Missionary Internship Service (MIS), now known as Global Outreach, in 1970 alongside Pastor Harold Green. The first Athletes for Christ basketball team trip took place in 1971, and these efforts quickly expanded to sending Cedarville students all over the globe. Whether it was basketball trips to the Philippines, soccer trips to the Ivory Coast, or music ministry teams headed to Australia and Brazil, the impact of MIS/Global Outreach has been immeasurable. Dr. Callan, 91, is still crafting a legacy that exemplifies 2 Timothy 2:2: “And what you have heard fromme in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also" (ESV). 35 Join us for this year’s Yellow Jacket Golf Outing to support Cedarville University Athletics!
