C r a s h Course u A test drive of the classroom experience (without the final exam) PROGRAM TITLE Contemporary World Missions INSTRUCTOR Matthew Bennett Assistant Professor of Missions and Theology DESCRIPTION Using biblical and theological foundations of missions, students critically assess contemporary missions methods, strategies, and tools. Students learn to evaluate missions agencies based on biblical, theological, and strategic criteria to select an agency with whom to work. Students are encouraged to cooperate in their local church’s missions involvement and strategize how to encourage the global Church to bring the Gospel to unreached people. BIG IDEA • Students will investigate the biblical and theological foundations for the work of global missions. • Students will learn to understand the differences between mission, ministry, and missions. • Students will use biblical and theological foundations as the metrics for assessing various currently popular approaches to missions. This summer, I was able to apply what I learned in this class. My church sent me to Guatemala to evaluate the applied theology of a missions organization they were going to partner with. I was able to apply principles learned in this class to evaluate the partnership.” Lydia Rucker ’20 Dr. Dixon’s 40 Years For 40 years, Paul Dixon has inspired and influenced students, faculty, and staff at Cedarville University. Dixon was named President in 1978 and served until 2003. He was appointed Chancellor of the University in 2003 and serves in that role to this day. Dixon was recognized for his remarkable record of servant leadership during the annual faculty/staff meeting prior to the beginning of the 2018–2019 school year. New Residence Hall to Open by 2020 Record enrollment for 12 consecutive years, including the largest enrollment this year, is leading Cedarville University to build a new residence hall on campus. The facility will house approximately 300 students and is expected to open by fall 2020. The new residence hall will be located on the north end of campus, just south of the Yellow Jackets Soccer Complex and west of Callan Athletic Center. Nearby will be the townhouses, including the recently named Rooke Hall. “This new hall will tie together and create a neighborhood of residence options,” noted Jon Wood, Vice President for Student Life and Christian Ministries. “This continues our model of life-on-life discipleship in a residential community. The indoor and outdoor spaces associated with this new residence hall will be built with community and spiritual growth in mind for the student body.” The new hall is being funded completely through the University’s cash reserves; Cedarville will incur no debt.
